𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗻𝗮𝘃-𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗮𝘁 𝗥𝗖𝗠𝗥𝗗 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗥𝗜𝗖 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰) Theme: Earth, our Home SatNav Africa JPO was most honoured to contribute to the 8th Edition of Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development International Conference (RIC2024) in Nairobi (Kenya), 12-15th of August as a new RCMRD Partner. SatNav Africa JPO intervened as a Key Note speaker at the 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲 (AFREF) 2024 Workshop by delivering a few insights on the contribution of GNSS applications to address Earth related challenges in Africa while advocating for more synergies with Earth Observation.  SatNav Africa JPO also delivered a masterclass on Space Positioning and GNSS technologies concepts and applications as well as GNSS augmentation systems and services availability in Africa. Innovative solutions such as Galileo new Services and augmented systems such as Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) were also explored for their potential use in the implementation of a Unified Reference Frame in Africa (AFREF) in the future. SatNav Africa JPO also contributed to the RIC 2024 /AfriGEO 2024 Edition through an exhibition Stand, an opportunity to raise awareness about the role of the Satellite Navigation Programme in Africa to the larger GEO Communities in Africa. 𝐒𝐀𝐓𝐍𝐀𝐕 𝐀𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐀 𝐉𝐏𝐎 𝐀𝐓 𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐘𝐀 𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐎 & 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 Kenya Space Agency hosted the second edition, Kenya Space Expo and Conference 2024, themed “𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬” at the The Edge Convention Centre Nairobi, #Nairobi, from 18 to 20 June 2024. The focus of the event was on the use of space science, technology and applications in improvement of quality of life and enabling socio-economic development. The event brought together representatives from government, academia, industry, professionals, international organizations, start-ups and the wider public to a multi-stakeholder dialogue on the use of space technologies in addressing societal needs, as well as showcasing real applications in socio-economic development. SatNav Africa JPO took part in the event in partnership with the RIIS - Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability that’s based in South Africa. Through the partnership, SatNav Africa shared an exhibition booth with RIIS as well as Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) and Digital Earth Africa. Ce vendredi 14 Juin, nous avons eu le plaisir de conclure un MOU avec SatNav Africa JPO. Cet accord vise à établir un cadre général de travail entre les parties pour faciliter la coopération dans le domaine de la navigation par satellite et des applications spatiales. Ceci afin de soutenir l’émergence de clusters d’entreprises innovantes au Sénégal et plus généralement en Afrique. En marge de la signature, une séance de travail entre les parties a permis de déterminer une feuille de route à court-moyen terme pour l’organisation : -d'une série de webinaires sur l’utilisation du GNSS pour les structures nationales, dans les domaines maritime, agricole et géospatiale -d’une activité de sensibilisation des filles sur les sciences et technologies spatiales -d’une conférence internationale sur la navigation par satellite -d’un hackathon sur l’observation de la terre. Welcome to Africa Earth Observation Challenge 2024! The Challenge launches on 18 June 2024 and we will once again be calling on Africa’s entrepreneurs and space-tech startups who incorporate space-based technologies into the offerings, to submit their companies to take part. There will be lots of prizes up for grabs as well as the potential for the finalists to receive a paid trip to the final pitch event which will be held in Kenya, Nairobi in late November 2024.
