📍 How do we prioritize mental health in the fast-paced world of UX research? On July 18th, 2024, we hosted a webinar as part of our State of UX Report Mental Health Series, focusing on the stress and burnout affecting UX professionals across Africa. With a panel of expert speakers, we explored the mental health challenges in our field and shared strategies to prioritize participant well-being. ➡️ Here are some key takeaways: 🔘 Did you know? 60.4% of UX professionals have experienced burnout in the past year! 🔘 Sasha Oseadeyo Ena Ofori explored how stress affects our field, reminding us that recognizing these challenges is the first step toward addressing them. 🔘 Katherine Train PhD and Lidewij Niezink shared five types of empathy to foster participant well-being: self-empathy, kinesthetic empathy, reflective empathy, imaginative empathy, and empathic creativity. 🔘 Amanda Iheme emphasized the importance of self-care—setting boundaries and seeking peer support are vital for coping with research-related trauma. 🔗 Read more about our discussion and key takeaways here: https://lnkd.in/e7w7sHfw 👉🏾 Let’s continue this conversation! L'avenir de l'éducation en Afrique passe par les langues nationales 🌍 Au Sénégal, un tournant décisif est en cours avec l'intégration des langues nationales dans l'enseignement, comme le souligne cet article du Monde. Forum 2040 a placé ce sujet majeur au cœur de ses ateliers avec YUX Design lors notre recherche expérimentale en 2023. Moustapha Guirassy, le Ministre de l'Education Nationale du Sénégal et en charge de cette réforme, avait salué cette initiative dans la préface à notre publication. Selon l'UNESCO, l'enseignement dans les langues maternelles améliore non seulement les résultats scolaires mais favorise aussi l'inclusion sociale, en permettant aux élèves de mieux comprendre et s’approprier les contenus d'apprentissage. Les chiffres du recensement en 2023 ont montré que 0,6% des Sénégalais utilisent le français au quotidien alors que le wolof est parlé par plus de 53,5% des citoyens. De plus, des études de The World Bank montrent que l'éducation multilingue réduit le taux d'abandon scolaire et renforce la rétention des élèves, surtout dans les premières années. Dans notre recherche au Sénégal (https://tally.so/r/wMOElE) , nos jeunes participants ont souligné, à partir de leurs expériences personnelles, que mobiliser les langues nationales dès le plus jeune âge permet de valoriser le patrimoine linguistique et culturel, tout en construisant un système éducatif plus inclusif, adapté aux réalités des pays africains. Promouvoir les langues nationales, c’est non seulement un pas en avant pour soutenir une éducation plus efficace et inclusive, mais aussi un engagement fort pour préserver et raviver les cultures et les langues locales qui font les richesses de notre continent. ✊🏽 Qu'en pensez-vous? Last month marked the beginning of a collaboration with Dimagi, @RAES, Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD), and The Gates Foundation aimed at revolutionizing youth reproductive health in West Africa through a generative AI chatbot. Our journey started with engaging co-design sessions where young adults shared their insights, emphasizing the importance of cultural relevance and empathy in health communication. This project is not just about technology; it’s about creating a safe space for young people to access vital information. ✨ Quand la jeunesse fait émerger de nouveaux imaginaires éducatifs puissants Dans notre dernière publication avec YUX Design, nous mettions en avant une méthode de codesign unique alliant le conte oratoire et l’intelligence artificielle, donnant lieu à sept contes futuristes illustrés, ancrés dans les réalités culturelles africaines et qui racontent les futurs possibles de l’éducation au Sénégal. Ces récits, conçus par des jeunes de Dakar et de Fissel, montrent comment le numérique, la réappropriation des savoirs ancestraux ou encore l’entrepreneuriat pourraient transformer l’école et émanciper la jeunesse d’ici 2040! Une transformation qui est déjà en route partout au Sénégal.    Une source d'inspiration pour tous ceux qui croient qu’il est possible et nécessaire d’engager une grande transformation de l’éducation et d’y impliquer nos jeunesses en premier lieu! 📍 Thrilled to share highlights from our recent UX Research workshop held during Bold Art’s inspiring "Art-a-thon"! 🎨✨ Our Challenge: "How Might We Create Everyday Wear For Nairobians Using Locally Available Resources?"  This question guided our talented participants through a journey of creativity and innovation. Key Highlights: ➡️ Expert Guidance: Led by Melissah W. and Francis Mwangi, our diverse group of designers and artists explored essential design thinking principles. ➡️ Hands-On Learning: Participants engaged in empathy mapping, prioritization exercises, and conducted real-world research through interviews and observations. ➡️ Collaborative Spirit: The synergy between digital artists, painters, graffiti artists, and product designers fostered a vibrant atmosphere of creativity. The insights gained from this workshop are invaluable as we continue to push the boundaries of design in our community.
