About us
Shaqodoon is a local NGO founded in 2011 to create innovative and long-lasting solutions to Somalia/land’s youth employment challenges. The NGO is the upshot of the former EDC Somali livelihood project funded by USAID that provided youth in Somaliland, Puntland, and South-Central Somalia with greater opportunities to access to work, training, internships, and self-employment opportunities. The organization designs, delivers, and evaluates innovative programs to address some of the local community’s most urgent challenges in livelihood skill training, education, and health. Shaqodoon is a national platform whose goal is to prioritize youth employment and education on the development agenda and to exchange knowledge on effective policies and programs to improve employment and education opportunities for youth, prioritizing at-risk youth, marginalized groups, and people who have lost hope and are thus often jailed for local crimes. Shaqodoon Organization is a service provider dedicated to skill development, employment services, youth entrepreneurship, private sector business development, and technology for development. Shaqodoon makes use of participatory methods to ensure youth participate in delivering its services.

Under the BREACH Project funded by the European Union through Somali Resilience Program (SomReP), Shaqodoon in collaboration with CARE conducted a vibrant training program for key community committee teams from #Qoryaale, #Qoyta, and #Suuqsade from July 18th to 19th, 2024. The committees will lead crowdfunding campaigns for crucial community projects such as road rehabilitation and floods management protection. Held in Burao, participants received training in accountable and transparent project management and financial governance for community contributions to Contingency Plans and #CAAPs. The #BREACH Project aims to create opportunities for IDPs and refugee returnees to participate in public affairs and decision-making processes, enhance access to basic services, and link communities to local governments. These activities are crucial for building #communityresilience and promoting #sustainabledevelopment.

As part of the EU #BREACH project activities, Shaqodoon on Thursday attended an engaging and dynamic design workshop focused on upgrading the existing Mobile Early Warning System (#MEWS). Teams from Shaqodoon, Somali Resilience Program (SomReP), NADFOR and SOS Children's Villages Somaliland came together to discuss the system and brainstorm innovative upgrades and outcomes. The session was lively and interactive, with participants exploring challenges faced by the current system and proposing solutions from various perspectives, including NGOs, the community, technical teams, and government agencies. Additionally, the team had the chance to pay a visit to NADFOR's current action room, where they got to see the current system in action. This hands-on experience provided invaluable context and inspiration for potential upgrades. Shaqodoon, known for its expertise in developing cutting-edge technological solutions, contributed valuable insights into enhancing the #MEWS. Our team highlighted the importance of integrating community feedback and leveraging advanced technologies to create a more robust and responsive early warning system.
