As the title suggests Clatchie is revisiting his blues roots with this EP. Hart to pick a favorite. I first picked Simple Life but then switched to Dog Man Cynic. Whatever, great songs, all 4 of them...
Favorite track: Dog Man Cynic.

This EP started life as the song 'Been & Gone' plus three instrumentals, but after an unexpected flash of inspiration one rainy Monday two weeks ago I wrote 'Simple Life' and 'Doldrums'. A day later I was going through some old CDs and found a very old song I wrote called 'Dogman Cynic' (it was on a demo disc I gave out to people at gigs in 2011), I immediately had an idea on how to revamp it, and all of a sudden I had an EP of original songs. So I put the instrumentals on the back burner and started recording!
'Been & Gone', 'Doldrums' and 'Dogman Cynic' will eventually be available on other streaming platforms, albeit separately on dates spread over the next few months. The song 'Simple Life' is exclusive to this Bandcamp release, and will not be available anywhere else, ever.
Instruments played on these recordings - Vintage 'Raven' Acoustic Guitar, my battered 'Rust Bucket' Resonator Guitar, Acoustic Bass, Nylon Strung Open Back Banjo, 22 inch Frame Drum, Small African Hand Drums, Assorted Shakers, Tambourines, Forest Sticks, Claps, Kalimba played with a stick, and a WOK BEING HIT WITH A HAMMER*
The Organ is from a Roland JV 10-10 outboard module with a controller keyboard, routed through an Orange 'Crush' Acoustic Amp, then mic'd up and recorded live.

All instruments were recorded through vacuum tube mic pre-amps for added warmth, saturation and 'dirt'. There were no software instruments used on this EP.

The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points.
This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff. Even without a Hammond B3, it gets an easy A+... rick-taylor
