RCB vs LSG Highlights, IPL 2024: Mayank Yadav, Quinton de Kock shine as Lucknow beats Bengaluru by 28 runs

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started well with a 40-run partnership, but the fall of Kohli saw RCB lose steam as wickets fell at regular intervals. Mayak Yadav with a three-wicket haul, starred with the ball, with Naveen-ul-Haq picking two wickets. Yash Thakur and Marcus Stoinis picked a wicket each.

Mayak Dagar falls and Lucknow is bossing the game at the moment. This is Lucknow’s game to win as Nicholas Pooran with a direct hit, packs off Dagar. Yash Thakur takes Lucknow further close to winning as he removes Lomror. 

Lomror goes down town, connects extremely well as he hammers Naveen-ul-Haq over the long-on for a maximum, and then just guides a short delivery over the keeper’s head for a boundary, and that was an excellent ramp shot executed at the right time. Naveen-ul-Haq has the last laugh as he gets Dinesh Karthik, who went for a pull shot, only to glove it to Rahul behind the stumps. 

Is there now a twist in the tale? Lomror goes bonkers by smashing Yash Thakur for a six over long-off, followed by a boundary to the third-man region, and then a maximum over the cow corner. 19 runs come from Yash’s over, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru need 59 runs in 24 balls.

Mayank Yadav finishes with a golden spell of 4-0-14-3. The last ray of hope for Bengaluru, Rajat Patidar falls as the pull shot doesn’t fetch him a six, instead, it landed straight down the throat of Padikkal at deep backward square leg as there was no control of the shot and it was the pace that hurried the batsman into playing the shot. Dinesh Karthik took a successful review after being beaten for pace and almost getting trapped. Royal Challengers Bengaluru need 78 runs in 30 balls

Mahipal Lomror joins Patidar and this chase is slowly going away from the hands of Bengaluru. The required rate is close to 13 runs per over, compared to the current rate of 7.39. A blinder from one of the batsmen can only turn things for Bengaluru. 

Marcus Stoinis is into the attack, and he strikes as Anuj Rawaj falls while trying to go for a big shot but gets undone by the bouncer as Padikkal takes a neat catch at mid-on. Bengaluru is sinking at home, and this is excellent stuff from Lucknow. 

Rajat Patidar gets into the act by smashing Ravi Bishnoi for a six and a four after Krunal Pandya put down Anuj Rawat - a simple chance in the deep mid-wicket. RCB finiding some momentum here. 

Patidar gets into the act with a brilliant six over the deep fine leg and RCB needs more of those. A first boundary since 19 balls as the required rate has now climbed up to 12 against the current rate of 6.45. Lucknow is in a very good chance to close the game. 

A 152.3kph screamer from Mayan Yadav and oh boy! The consistency with which he is bowling Umran Malik would certainly make him feel jealous! All in 150s, and this is a show one cannot miss. Absolutely a gem of an over. 

Naveen-ul-Haq steams in as Lucknow tightens screws, with Anuj Rawat and Rajat Patidar in the middle. The pressure has to stay on if Lucknow wants to seek a win, as Patidar has the capability to change the course of the game. 

Watch out! Mayank Yadav is pelting out thunderbolts and is constantly clicking more than 150k clicks, almost every delivery, and castles Green with a peach of a delivery. Sheer pace, with a delivery that beat the outside edge of Green’s bat and knocked off the off stump. This is sensational bowling from the young pacer. The batsman absolutely had no feet movement, neither the time to negotiate with the delivery that just nipped back but it was pace that had the final say. 

Right then Rahul has turned to his trump card in Ravi Bishnoi, and Bengaluru is under pressure. Cam Green and Rajat Patidar have a job in their hands with the required rate of 10 runs per over. 

Padikkal in thick of things as he comes up with a brilliant direct hit to pack off Faf du Plessis. A risky single after tucking to mid-wicket and Padikkal hits the bull’s eye with one stump in his view, and the RCB skipper was never in the frame. Mayank Yadav then turns the game towards Lucknow as he removes Maxwell with sheer pace as the Australian goes for the pull only to get a top-edge, with Pooran taking a simple catch at mid-on. It’s raw pace as Maxwell falls for a 151k delivery!

Siddharth sprints off in a celebration as he has removed Virat Kohli who falls for a 16-ball 22, and the move to deploy the spinner by KL Rahul has worked. The King is gone as Kohli got a leading edge with Padikkal taking a good catch at backward point, and Lucknow will be happy that they got Kohli inside the PowerPlay.

Naveen-ul-Haq to Kohli! Now that’s some battle in this game, as Kohli smashed the pacer straight into the sightscreen for a maximum to propel RCB ahead. That was a super shot from the chase master, and then Du Plessis finsihed the over with a boundary. 

Siddharth is bowling quicker through the air and is hurrying up both Kohli and du Plessis. Kohli is a bit tentative against spin, and KL Rahul is building up the pressure in search of an early wicket. Du Plessis, however, collects two consecutive boundaries - first a pull past mid-on and then a lovely drive through the extra cover region. 

Spin from both ends as Krunal Pandya comes into the attack and Kohli goes on an attacking mode with a loft straight down the ground, and it was that typical Kohli pick up and execution. RCB up and running in the run chase. 

Lucknow starts with spin and it’s M Siddharth who rolls out a good first over giving just three runs from his opening over. Both Kohli and du Plessis are off the mark with singles. 

Right then, we are back for the chase, and it will be the master Virat Kohli along with Faf du Plessis ready to gun down 182. It should be an easy chase until and unless RCB implodes. M. Siddharth to start proceedings with the new ball. 

The story so far

Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss and opted to bowl first. They will be relatively happy as, on a high scoring ground, they restricted Lucknow to 181/5. Quinton de Kock scored an excellent 81 off 56 balls and gave Lucknow a bright start by forging a 53-run partnership with KL Rahul. Marcus Stoinis then joined de Kock to raise a 56-run stand for the third wicket, but it was Nicholas Pooran who, with his batting pyrotechnics, smashed an unbeaten 40 off 21 balls to power Lucknow to a competitive total. 

Topley is receiving some treatment as Pooran smacks three consecutive sixes, with the bowler missing the yorker length. Two flat sixes over the point region, and then a 106-m six as the ball landed on the roof of the stadium! What hitting! Brilliant from Pooran as he has dismantled Topley with 20 runs coming from the over. 

Pooran fetches a boundary as he dispatches Yash Dayal through the square carpet but the bowler makes a good comeback and doesn’t concede any further boundaries and removes Ayush Badoni with Faf du Plessis taking a brilliant catch, covering the ground well and pouching it safely at extra cover. Excellent comeback from RCB. 

Topley returns into the attack after giving 17 in his first two overs, and the change of pace will be the key for RCB here. Both de Kock and Pooran will look to explode, given targetting the 200-run mark. Anuj Rawat puts down a tough chance as Pooran got a top-edge but Topley strikes by dismissing Quinton de Kock who falls for a brilliant 56-ball 81. Just two runs and a wicket. Outstanding over. 

Now Siraj is back into the attack, and Lucknow will look to post a big total, especially on a track like Chinnaswamy. De Kock punishes Siraj for a boundary with a wonderful drive straight through the mid-off region. De Kock then goes aerial over the mid-off with the man inside the circle and gets another boundary. 

Yash Dayal is back into the attack and the pacer started with a yorker as Nicholas Pooran joins de Kock. Brilliant over as just two runs come from the over. Top one. 

Maxwell gets the punishment as Stoinis dispatches the spinner over the wide long-on for a maximum to bring the fifty-run partnership. However, the Australian strikes to remove Stoinis as he ends up giving a simple catch at point. Maxwell finishes with excellent figures of 4-0-23-2.

Cameron Green has missed the plot as de Kock belts the medium pacer for a maximum over point, and then Stoinis deposits a juicy full toss into the stands. De Kock then finds a boundary to drive Lucknow and this is poor bowling from Green.

Quinton de Kock gets to his half-century in 36 balls, but it looked like he could have gotten to the landmark much earlier. Nevertheless, the 100 is up for Lucknow, with de Kock smashing Dagar straight down the ground for a maximum. 

Stoinis finds the boundary as he laces through the backward square leg as Cameron Green comes into the attack. De Kock has lost a bit of momentum as he is failing to connect the ball and bisect the gaps. 

More spin as Mayank Dagar is into the attack, and the left-arm spinner starts really well with Marcus Stoinis and de Kock searching for boundaries. 

De Kock welcomes Siraj into the attack with a crunch pull over the mid-wicket and the pacer is struggling a bit by bowling three consecutive wides. Line and length has been an issue but Lucknow won’t mind that. Siraj gets his man as he removes Padikkal with a short delivery, and that was an excellent running catch by Anuj Rawat. The wides won’t be a problem for Du Plessis! 

Maxwell is rolling out gems by not allowing the batsmen to free their arms to hit freely, especially de Kock who blazed away at the start. The off-spinner broke the opening stand and then applied brakes to the Lucknow batting. 

Reece Topley is back into the attack and bowls a decent one. De Kock meanwhile, reaches to the 3000 IPL-run mark, following the likes of Gayle, Rahul, Warner, and Buttler, to name a few. 

KL Rahul falls while trying to up the ante after smashing Maxwell for a six. as he tried to pull the off-spinner but only ended up getting a top-edge as Mayak Dagar takes a simple catch at covers. Devdutt Padikkal is the new man in. PowerPlay done and dusted and De Kock holds the key here. 

Yash Dayal is back into the attack, and Bengaluru will look to tighten things up and break the opening partnership. Rahul broke away from the shackles with a brilliant six straight into the sight-screen and then finished the over with a couple of runs. 

First signs of spin as Glenn Maxwell comes into the attack and Rahul is caught in a bit of a tangle. A brilliant over in the contest of things as Maxwell concedes just four runs from his opening over. 

Mohammed Siraj is into the attack and it was surprising not to see the lead pacer not opening the attack as he almost snares an outside edge off Rahul’s bat, but the skipper survives. There is no stopping de Kock as he smashes Siraj for two consecutive sixes - a flick to the deep fine leg and then over the deep square leg region. What a fine start. 

Yash Dayal fed de Kock with some loose deliveries, and the southpaw dispatched them to the boundaries. This is a fine start for Lucknow, and de Kock is in fine flow. 

A top-edge to open his account, and Quinton de Kock is up and running with two sumptuous shots - first through the vacant cover region and then through the square of the wicket to get Lucknow’s scorecard ticking. Topley was expensive in his first over.
