Ranji Trophy February 12 Matches Highlights, Scorecard: Baba Indrajith, Vijay Shankar deny Karnataka win, match ends in a thrilling draw

Damm! What a thriller and Tamil Nadu will feel they have escaped from the jail! But credit to Baba Indrajith and Vijay Shankar who forged a brilliant 125-run stand and denied Karnataka an outright win. The Mayank Agarwal-led side has missed a trick and will have to settle with three points.

Eight down and Karnataka is right back in this game with the wickets of Vijay Shankar and S Lokeshwar as skipper R Sai Kishore is stranded at the other end. Tamil Nadu needs 17 runs to win and Karnakata in hunt for two wickets. What a magnificent game we have had. 

Dear o dear! What has happened will leave Indrajith crest-fallen, as he his run-out two runs shy of his century as Vidhwath Kavereappa with a direct-hit has brought cheers in the Karnataka camp. The rivalry, the battle and the intensity is way beyond anything else at the moment and this is Ranji Trophy being played at its very best. Karnataka frustrated as Indrajith and Vijay Shankar with a 125-run stand, have probably denied them full points.

This has a brilliant run chase so far as Baba Indrajith is on the cusp of a match-winning century and Vijay Shankar has proved his class. Tamil Nadu cannot lose this game now as it has got five wickets in hand and needs 31 runs to win.

Baba Indrajith has scored a patient half-century off 149 deliveries, but Tamil Nadu is five down and needs 119 runs to win the game. India international Vijay Shankar is in the middle, and with two experienced batters in the middle, Tamil Nadu will look to bat out the remaining overs. At least it can hope both batsmen fight it out in the middle.

Dharmendrasinh Jadeja spins out Rajasthan for a paltry 87 and picks career-best figures of 7/32 to secure a massive 218-run win for Saurashtra. What a victory, and not to forget Yuvrajsinh Dodiya’s three-wicket haul, and of course the centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara and Sheldon Jackson, who were the chief architects of the win. A second Jadeja is in the making!

Left-arm spinner Akash Pandey picked up a nine-wicket haul (26.2-5-71-9) as Railways bowled out Goa for 242 and beat Goa by 63 runs. 

Vijay Kumar Vyshak strikes and breaks the 67-run stand as Pradosh Paul falls for a 116-ball 74. The medium pacer strikes, as Tamil Nadu needs another 205 runs to win. Karnataka seven wickets away from registering a famous win away from home, and Baba Indrajith will play out of his skin to save the match for his side.

Saurashtra has declared its innings at 234/6 setting Rajasthan a target of 306 runs to win. In reply, Rajasthan has slipped to be five down for just 67 runs on board, and their plan of attacking the Saurashtra bowlers has backfired completely. Dharmendrasinh Jadeja is making all the right noises and is turning the attention of national selectors with yet another four-wicket haul, and going by his form, he is bound to increase his tally. Saurashtra and its production of left-arm spinners is simply amazing.

Pradosh Paul hits a much-needed half-century, and this innings under pressure has kept Karnataka at bay. Crucial innings for Baba Indrajith, who has been searching for runs and form. This is a perfect opportunity for the former captain to showcase his skill and class. 

There comes the breakthrough that Karnataka was looking for, as Shashi Kumar produces a beauty to remove Vimal Khumar who edges to second slip, and Devdutt Padikkal makes no mistake. The opening hour was good for Tamil Nadu, but Vimal’s vigil comes to an end.

Arpit Vasavada with an unbeaten half-century, has taken Saurashtra’s lead past the 300-run mark, and it will be interesting to see at what time Saurashtra makes the declaration. It has the cushion of runs and the legs of the fast bowlers to run through Rajasthan. For now, Vasavada will look to hit a century, batting unbeaten on 74 along with Chirag Jani.

Pradosh Ranjan Paul and opener R Vimal Khumar have forged an unbeaten 44-run stand as Tamil Nadu needs another 297 runs to win the contest. In these days where the Bazball style of play has been adopted by the majority of the teams, Tamil Nadu will look to go for the target rather than switching to survival mode. In reality, teams in the past have managed to salvage draws, but in today’s modern-day game, both sides will play for a result. It will be a stunning run chase if the home side can pull it off, as Karnataka has mounted a stiff challenge. However, the dice is loaded heavily on Mayank Agarwal’s men.
