AUS vs ENG, T20 World Cup 2024: Zampa headlines clinical Australia’s 36-run demolition of defending champion England
For the defending champion, England, the Group B T20 World Cup match against Australia was yet another reality check in white-ball cricket in an 18-month period that has seen a stream of them.
- June 09, 2024 02:034ENG 165/6 in 20 overs
England needs 50 runs to win from 6 balls. It will still want to shave as much off it for a better NRR. Stoinis will bowl. Starts off with a wide outside off. FOUR! Brook lofts this elegantly over cover for a boundary. Punched through the off-side for one more. Jordan pulls for a single at deep midwicket. FOUR! Thick outside edge and Brook will collect a boundary at third-man off the last ball of the match. Australia won’t mind that. They win by 36 runs after losing the toss.
- June 09, 2024 01:58CENG 152/6 in 19 overs
Cummins will bowl. Just three singles off the first three balls. Dropped! Zampa stuck his arm out at short third-man and even had the ball in his grasp for some time but couldn’t hold on. Still, a great effort. OUT! Livingstone is caught at long-off next ball and that’s pretty much it for England. Jordan comes in and slashes outside off first ball and misses as Cummins takes the pace off.
- June 09, 2024 01:546ENG 148/5 in 18 overs
Zampa will bowl out now. Just a couple of singles off the first two balls for England. SIX! Livingstone steps out and clears the rope at long-on to break a 21-ball boundary-drought for England. 57 needed now from 14 balls. Zampa finishes with 2/28 in 4 overs. England needs 54 runs from 12 balls.
- June 09, 2024 01:50ENG 136/5 in 17 overs

- June 09, 2024 01:44CENG 130/5 in 16 overs
Cummins comes back. OUT! Another blow for England and Moeen is caught. He shuffled across his stumps probably looking to go big down the ground but ends up slicing this to the deep cover fielder. Liam Livingstone the new batter.

Zampa again. Loud appeal for lbw first ball as Moeen misses the flick on leg-side. Not given and not reviewed. The runs are coming at a trickle. Bairstow gets a couple off an inside edge after missing a slog sweep off the previous ball. Another missed slog sweep for Bairstow to end the over.

Good effort by Brook at mid-off to dive and stop it and keep it down to a single. A couple for Wade next ball. Wade goes for the reverse but cannot connect and Buttler thinks there was some glove on it. The umpire gives it out very late and Wade reviews it immediately. There is no glove on it, confirms the TV umpire and Wade survives. End of over.
- June 08, 2024 23:584AUS 185/5 in 18 overs
Rashid bowls out. Stoinis with a reverse-sweep and only gets a single as the point fielder intercepts it. FOUR! Wide outside off and driven away to the cover boundary by Wade. A bit of a confusion as Wade was looking to back out of playing this shot but Rashid still bowled it and Wade also played it. The batter though wants it to be called a dead-ball but the umpire says it was a fair delivery. Wade clearly unhappy.
