Kerala Blasters head coach Rene Meulensteen has decided to part ways with the Kochi based ISL club. The former assistant coach of Manchester United decided to end his association with the club on mutual terms.

The official communication from the club has cited personal reasons for the departure of the Dutchman. Rene thanked the management, staff and players and wished the club success for the future. "I like to thank the management, staff and players and amazing fans for this experience and wish them well for the future,’’ the coach said.

The Kerala Blasters CEO Varun Tripuraneni thanked the Dutchman and said replacement would be named soon. "The club likes to thank Rene for all the hard work in his time at the club. The replacement would be announced soon,’’ he said. This is not the first time that Kerala Blasters is replacing its head coach during ISL as in the second edition, Peter Taylor quit the club midway.

Rene Meulesnsteen’s departure comes at a time when the Kochi club is struggling to create an impression in the ongoing league despite signing high profile players like Dimtar Berbatov and Wes Brown. The club is currently placed eighth in the league and from five home matches has won just one match. Kerala Blasters lost the last match against Bengaluru FC at home 1-3 on Sunday.

Kerala Blasters assistant coach Thangboi Singto has been handed temporary charge of the club ahead of Kerala Blasters home match against Pune FC on Thursday.
