Alvarez out injured

Mexico skipper Edson Alvarez was forced out due to an injury. The West Ham player was lying down and the referee stopped the play. He was holding his hamstring and despite receiving treatment on the pitch, he was unable to continue. It was a huge blow for El Tri. Luis Romo replaced Alvarez in the 29th minute.

Mexico comes out for the second half late

Mexico comes out late for the second half. Jamaican team waited for three-four minutes before its opponents turned up on the pitch for the second half. The same thing also happened during Argentina vs Canada match when the defending champion came out quite late.

Antonio’s goal disallowed by VAR

Antonio scored with a diving header in the 50th minute from a sublime ball by Dexter Lembikisa with his weaker left-foot. However, the VAR disallowed the goal, as the West Ham striker is deemed off-side. 

Arteaga stunner gives Mexico lead

A moment of individual magic gave Mexico the lead. Gerardo Arteaga scored a stunner to give Mexico the lead. This was only his second for the national side. Arteaga unleashed a left-footed rocket from the edge of the box which nestled into the back of the net.
