Euro 2024: Lamine Yamal’s touch of genius makes football come alive in Spain’s win over France

Euro 2024: In front of over 75,000 fans at the Allianz Arena, against the World Cup finalist, France, 16-year-old Lamine Yamal silenced his doubters after scoring a left-footed strike, which was out of the world.

Spain is doing everything to keep the ball away from France. Barcola gets the ball on the left and crosses it into the box. Griezmann jumps but Cucurella holds him off enough to win the goal kick. 

And that is it for the night as the referee blows the whistle for full-time.

Spain: Yamal and Williams are replaced by Ferran Torres and Martin Zubimendi

Yamal goes into the book for bringing down Hernandez while he was trying to start a French counter attack.

Five minutes of added time to play.

Spain is doing well to stitch together passes and keep the ball away from the French. Camavinga brings down Cucurella with a harsh challenge and earns himself a yellow card.

Barcola plays the ball to Mbappe on the left wing. He takes on Vivian and cuts to his right. He takes a shot from the edge of the box and the ball ends up sailing into the stands for a goal kick.

Laporte is on the ground after colliding with Giroud. The medical staff is on the pitch and is checking up on him. He is on his feet and the match resumes.

Spain is finally on the attack once again. Yamal gets the ball on the right and cuts into the edge of the box. He tries to find the far corner once again but it goes wide of the target in the end.

France: Dembele is replaced by Olivier Giroud.

Griezmann plays a ball into the far post from the left. Fabian Ruiz makes a mess of clearing it away and the ball falls to Hernandez at the edge of the box. He lashes his right foot at the ball and it sails over the bar into the stands.

Spain: Morata and Olmo are replaced by Mikel Oyarzabal and Mikel Merino

Corner comes in from the right for France which is cleared away. Spain regains possession of the ball and gives itself a breather.

Cucurella is played through into the box by Williams. He tries to cut back a pass into the middle but is closed down by Saliba.

Vivian plays a ball over the top to Yamal on the right. His touch is poor and Upamecano runs ahead of him to take the ball and clear it away.

France: Rabiot, Kante and Kolo Muani are replaced by Bradley Barcola, Antoine Griezmann and Edouardo Camavinga.

Cucurella gives away the ball and Kante pounces on it. He plays Dembele through, who tries to cross it into the box. Unai Simon stretches out his hand and stops the ball before any danger.

Tchouameni is booked for a foul on Morata.

Play is paused momentarily as a spectator has invaded the pitch.

Spain: Jesus Navas is replaced by Daniel Vivian.

Mbappe receives the ball on the right and gets into the box. He fakes a shot and then tried to squeeze the ball into the goal from a tight angle. Unai Simon make an easy save in the end.

France is on the attack and Kounde gets the ball on the right side of the box. He plays a low pass which is cleared away for a corner by Laporte who slided in.

The following corner is met by Tchouameni in the box but it is a comfortable catch for Unai Simon in the end.

Spain is enjoying a good spell of possession. Cucurella gets the ball on the left wing and plays a cross into the six-yard area. Saliba gets to the ball ahead of Morata and clears it away.

Spain plays out beautifully from a high press and Morata finds Williams in space on the left. Maignan takes a chance and comes way off his line to clear the ball away from Williams.

Spain kicks off the second half shooting from right to left.

Spain vs France, Euro 2024: Lamine Yamal becomes youngest goal scorer in Euros history

Lamine Yamal scored an equaliser for Spain against France in the 21st minute to become the youngest goalscorer at the age of 16 years old.

Nacho goes down in the middle of the pitch after being clipped on his ankles by Kolo Muani. That is the last action of the half as the referee blows the whistle for full time.

Two minutes of added time to play in the first half.

Freekick comes in from the left for France. Dembele’s cross is cleared away by the Spanish defence. 

Nico Williams is on the break down the left. He spots Yanmal in space on the right and feeds the ball to him. Yamal cuts to his left once again and takes a shot which is blocked away for a corner by Hernandez.

Kounde gets the ball after the Spanish defence clears it away from a corner. He finds Dembele on the right, who is brought down by Cucurella who stuck out a leg.

Yamal gets the ball on the right and plays it to Ruiz in the middle. He takes a touch and shoots it on the bounce. It deflects off a French defender and goes out for a corner.

Yamal is brought down near the touchline by Theo Hernandez. The Spanish bench and De la Fuente are not happy with the challenge.

Saliba tries to find Dembele on the right with a ball over the top. Cucurella cuts off the pass with a header and forces a handball from Kounde who was advancing forward.

France gets a free kick on the right side of the box. Dembele whips in a cross which goes past everybody in the box and out for a goal kick.

Olmo scores!! Navas gets the ball on the right wing and puts in a cross. Saliba heads it away only as far as Olma who does well to take it past Tchouameni and take a shot which bounces off Kounde into the net. However, Olmo’s initial shot was on target which is why he is awarded the goal.

Yamal scores!! He becomes the youngest goalscorer in Euros history. He gets the ball in a more central area and cuts to his left. He strikes the ball from way out and finds the top left corner, leaving Maignan no chance of saving it.

Mbappe gets the ball on the right and cuts into the penalty box. He takes a shot but it is blocked buy Nacho. France is knocking on the door again and again.

Mbappe stands over the freekick and kicks it directly into the wall.

Navas is booked for a harsh challenge on Rabiot. France has a freekick in a good position.

Williams on the right. He plays a cross to Ruiz inside the box, who flicks the ball into the middle of goal. Morata is there but he is held off well by the French defence.

Kolo Muani Scores!! Dembele finds Mbappe on the right who takes a touch and puts a beautiful ball into the box. Kolo Muani has a free header and makes no mistake in finding the back of the net.

Kolo Muani plays a ball through for Mbappe. Jesus Navas steps ahead of him and clears it away from the French captain.

Yamal gets the ball on the right and cuts to his left. He puts a curling ball into the box and Ruiz is there. He jumps too early and heads the ball over the bar from close range.

What a chance for Spain.

Yamal brings down Hernandez near the middle of the pitch for the first foul of the match.

Spain gets possession of the ball and is taking its time. Laporte plays a ball over the top to Yamal on the right who brings it down beautifully. The play is switched to the right where Fabian Ruiz gets the ball inside the box. He plays a cross into the box but no one is there to meet it.

France kicks off the match shooting from right to left.

The players are making their way into the Munich Football Arena for the heavyweight clash. Alvaro Morata leads Spain while Kylian Mbappe leads France.
