The European Committee for Standardization is one of three European Standardization Organizations (together with CENELEC and ETSI) that have been officially recognized by the European Union and by the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) as being responsible for developing and defining voluntary standards at European level.

Scope
CEN/TC 169 is responsible for standards in the field of vision, photometry and colorimetry,
involving natural and man-made optical radiation over the UV, the visible and the IR regions
of the spectrum, and application subjects covering all usages of light, indoors and outdoors,
including environmental, energy and sustainability requirements and aesthetics and nonimage
forming biological aspects as well as lighting related information modelling systems.
