The European Committee for Standardization is one of three European Standardization Organizations (together with CENELEC and ETSI) that have been officially recognized by the European Union and by the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) as being responsible for developing and defining voluntary standards at European level.

Scope
Standardization of transportable gas cylinders, their fittings, and requirements relating to their design, testing and operation. The scope does not include LPG cylinder covered by CEN/TC 286 or non-refillable cartridges covered by CEN/TC 157. The scope does not include containers for cryogenic gases covered by CEN/TC 268.
