It's honestly best just to avoid this game. I played this game back in the day and I have fond memories of it. Some of those memories are still quite accurate to real life but there's things in this game which just make well beyond infuriating.

The idea behind the game is simple enough. You're in a mad man's puzzle house and you've got to find out what happened to all the guests and make your way out. Solve the puzzles, acquire bits of story and get on your way.

I really enjoy the little story elements. I love the way they're presented in the cut scenes and so on. Yes, they're a bit cheesy by today's standards but I honestly think it's suppose to be that way. There's some fun spooky moments and great music. Honestly, I think the game has great atmosphere.

My problem comes with the puzzles. A chunk of them like the cake, the telescope and even the microscope were quite fun. But the game just becomes about as frustrating as it gets with the likes of the piano puzzles and the bishops. I get having a tricky puzzle here and there but these are not the good kind of tricky. They're slow, tedious and the lack of inaccurate controls as well as poor performance just makes them extremely frustrating.

The 7th Guest doesn't play well. It's a slog and not by design. For whatever reason, I got a lot of slow down. Especially during the puzzles mentioned above. This made the mouse cursor unresponsive, leading to me making bad moves and having to repeat the stupid piano notes several times. I honestly just gave up at point. I'd rather put my time into something a bit more worthwhile.

The 7th Guest has so much potential. But it's let down in so many ways, some of which are a problem with the remaster. Buy it cheap or don't buy it at all.
