Double Fine's Future plans - 30 fps lock removal?
Now that Double Fine has regained the rights to this game, are there any future plans for updates or DLC? The number one thing on my wishlist is to remove the 30 fps lock like was done with Brutal Legend.

Definitely not working here. Always locked at 30 fps.
I've been hoping for a >30 FPS patch ever since Stacking was released. They've made promises about this multiple times, but I'm pretty skeptical at this point.

Can anyone confirm if that's what the patch did?

If you have FRAPS or some other frame rate counter running it will show 60fps but trust me it doesn't feel like it, It was also mentioned the game is repeating each frame twice which fools FPS counters when in reality its 30fps, you can especially tell when looking around with the mouse, camera movement is a little jerky.

If it's rendering every frame twice it definitely doesn't display both of them. I have a rather unique situation of having a dead pixel on my monitor that flickers at <30 fps with nVidia G-sync activated and this game triggers that behavior.

so any news about this? i just installed the game and it looks terrible. It definitely doesn't run at 60 fps no matter what fraps says. Did they release any patch or is there any config file to mess with? Nobody got a fix for this ???

The FPS lock was removed when Brutal Legend was released, I don't think it's happening for these older games.

I can kinda see the aesthetic benefit of 30fps for this game (tying inwith the whole silent movie early 1900's thing), but it would be nice to have the option to remove it. The jerkyness of the motion is a little jarring after a while.

When running this without vsync I get 200+fps (GTX770) but when panning the camera and moving around the world, you can certainly tell the actual in-engine rate is around 30.

30 FPS provides no benefit. I've also started to watch movies at 144 FPS with SmoothVideo Project (SVP)?
I disagree. For me it's playing into the historical aesthetic of the game, a bit like watching movies in their original black and white etc.

But then I absolutely hate the smoothing algorythms used in most TVs these days. To me it makes everything look like a soap opera! I'm probably a bit old-fashined!

Guess it all comes down to personal preference, which is why I do agree that it would be beneficial to be able to opt-out of this lock in Stacking. the 30fps hurts my eyes after a while for some reason...

I do too but it's not the smoothness that bothers me, it's all the visual artifacts that are generated. Anything moving too fast won't get smoothed so it looks jerky and out of place. Any movement around a pattern causes significant visual artifacts. I've played around with all the settings in SVP and never been able to prevent these problems.

Except those would go as low as 24fps or even lower depending on the age and technique.

Back in the silent film era there was no framerate standard. Some movies were as low as 12 fps, while others were as high as 40. The general rule was said to be 16 fps though. I definitely don't want to be playing games at that framerate.
