How many Gigs will this silly game reach ?
When i bought this game, it was 20~25 Gbs, Now it's whopping 108 Gb!!!!
C'mon, will it be the next Call of Duty with 300 Gb of useless content ?
It's getting increasingly heavier, my Ryzen Notebook almost dont run it anymore (use to run at 60 fps, on high) todat, not even reach 30 fps on medium, because you keeping adding useless and pricey content.
I bought this game just for the beautiful sea, and be sailing with my son, in our apartment - it was fun! - but today there is no peace in the seas, I cannot play in private servers, the game is extremely heavy and it now its a waste of money.
If I could, I would ask my money back - just for honor, not even for the money.
I bought one "Rare" game, its beautiful, made us escape the real life for a bit, but...
This silly game now that takes about 20 minutes to find a useless server, full of idiots, we cannot even make a merchant mission without and idiot exploding our ship.
We cannot play like those youtubers with infinite time to learn all tactics, we just wanted to play solo or with bots, just for fun. We're casual players, but this game hates casual players.

Today I simply hate this game.

"Safer Seas" is the solo mode where you're alone on a server.
That's rough. Anyways, play on safer seas if you don't want to experience pvp.

Game size is becoming a problem since most PCs/Laptops are shipping with 1Tb SSD. I don't like going below about 200G so it limits me in the number of these kinds of titles I can have installed at once. You would think game companies are aware of this. Is texture compression even a thing anymore? And for a lot of us safer seas is a nice option. There's a reduction in loot valuation but 30% of something is a lot better than 100% of nothing.
The bigger it gets, the better.

108gb isnt even a lot these days.. which is wild to say

I heard that game size will be reduced to 90GB. Some games today were compressed like to 50% these days. I do not know why SoT is still such a big game.

Turns out he didnt have an iron will
The game is the size that it is because Rare doesn't bother to optimize the space that it uses. Most, if not all, of the narrated voice lines are still in their original as-recorded quality, the superiority of which is quite literally impossible to notice when they are played within the game. Add that to the fact that to my knowledge, not a single file pertaining to removed content (such as the Arena or the time-limited Tall Tales from last year) has actually been removed from the game itself despite now being wholly unnecessary, and it becomes clear why the game's size is increasing at a very consistent rate.

This is false. The bigger it gets, the more unoptimised the game is.

and AAA companies are arguing about raising the prices to $70... but they don't account for the $70 you have to spend on an extra hard drive just to install their game.

Compression is not the answer unless you wanna sacrifice performance, and this game already running like crap in comparison to it's earlier days.
Thank everybody for following up, its nice of you!
This discussion is more about the storage limit, and optimisation.

Bigger filesize don't reflect in better quality.

A few examples of game with good optimisation:
Zelda "Breath of the Wild" - 13.4 Gb,
Zelda "Tears of the Kingdom" - 16,5 Gb,
Resident Evil 2 Remake - 21 Gb,
Resident Evil 3 Remake - 45 Gb,
Resident Evil 4 Remake - 67 Gb,

Zelda games are awesome, big map, run really light and load fast.
ResEvil remakes all have almost the same graphics, but install size is getting bigger every installment.

I mean, programmers are getting lazy, they dont even try to reuse and compress textures anymore. COD game are a good example of that:

Call of Duty games install size:
1 - 1.4 GB
2 - 4 GB
3 - ???
Modern Warfare - 8 GB
World at War - 8 GB
Modern Warfare 2 - 12 GB
Black Ops - 12 GB
Modern Warfare 3 - 16 GB
Black Ops 2 - 10 GB
Ghosts - 40 GB
Advanced Warfare - 55 GB
Black Ops 3 - 60 GB
Infinite Warfare - 70 GB
WWII - 90 GB
Black Ops 4 - 80 GB
Modern Warfare (2019) - 175 GB
Black Ops Cold War (2020) - 158 GB
Vanguard (2021) - 110 GB
Modern Warfare II (2022) - 125 GB
Modern Warfare III (2023) - 235 GB
Black Ops 6 - 310 GB

What I'm telling is: All this games were AAA quality at their time, but this is getting ridiculous.

I read this techspot article, that says something like what I'm trying to tell:

So, let me get this right. You're comparing games with static environments to a game where the environment is literally it's own character and never reacts the same? New content, stories, missions, and achievements get added to SoT in every season yet most (if not all) of the games you mentioned are still static after all this time and you're wondering why there's a size difference? :steamfacepalm:
The file size for what the game is, is pretty egregious. It never feels like this game has 100gb's of stuff packed into it.

This game uses 4k textures despite the low poly/cartoony style allowing for lower resolution textures to look good and they keep adding like 50 new items to the store that 90% of the playerbase will never use, trash optimisation is the bane of modern gaming.
