Played this game for almost 2 years and loved EVERYTHING about it. The graphics. The quests. The special events. I spent way too many hours sailing (when I still had the game on Xbox pass; have since purchased on Steam) Over the 2 years I played, cheaters got worse and worse. It was basically every time I sailed. Some of the cheaters knew me by name, and I was informed I was on a "black list" meaning they could actively look for me to harrass me. I took about a year break and just came back today. 30 minutes in, when about to cash in flags at Reaper's, had a cheater on board. The game is amazing but unplayable. I wish I could recommend it, but unless you don't mind continually losing time and progress to the countless cheaters in this game, don't waste your money. Rare won't fix it. They don't even really want to address it. The few feeble attempts they have made were a joke. Sad because I missed the game, but I didn't miss the cheaters. They are still going strong.... :(

Hopefully we'll eventually get a game like this that's purely PVE I don't want sea of thieves to be that cause it is it's own thing.

But imagine a coop pirate game similar to this where the pve is super fleshed out with as many accolades, guilds and tons of stuff to strive for. Would literally be one of the best games ever made.

They false copyright strike content creators and dont listen to their community choosing to mass block people on there social media and dont keep there promises + riddled with cheaters for many months now.

Sea Of Thieves at one point was so fun with friends, you would go on a journey across the seas with your friends solve puzzles, fight other players, try to get rich and 6-7 hours would just vanish in the blink of an eye, it still is no doubt about that but sad to say to new comers I wouldn't recommend this game in the state it is right now. It is overrun with cheaters, if not that then players would just trap you in an infinite spawn loop and there is virtually no escape to it. You HAVE to scuttle your ship to escape this loop, it's just not fair. I really hope the developers would do something to fix the TERRIBLE cheater problem first and foremost. I love this game with a passion, I've made some incredible memories with my friends in this game and I really hope I can come back to it's fixed state at some point in time but as of now I'm just thoroughly done with this game. I come home from university all tired and tried to have a good session with a close friend of mine, just to wind down a bit but this game only managed to put more stress on me.

Sad to see one of my favorite games in this state.

It pains me to put a negative review. I have played this game since launch in 2018 so my hours do not reflect my total. (1928 Hours total). I have been an advocate for this game to my friends. I have met many wonderful people in this game. I watched this game grow and now I personally believe I have watched it fall. The golden age was 2020-2023 for this game. I know so much about this games lore and locations. I knew the map so well I didn't even have to use the map table 90% of the time. I have so many memories in this game and It was my personal favorite game to play everyday. I love pirate fantasy and this game fit that hole so damn well for me. This game inspired me to start streaming yet I don't anymore. The time I put in this game I do not regret. I still love this game and I hope to find a reason to return someday. The soundtrack is still one of the best I have heard, the art style is so beautiful I have so many screenshots alone of the environments and many others of funny moments and memories made, and the game-play loop is still there and I know I can jump back in and enjoy this game but, It lost it's charm for me. I barely even feel excitement to find something new or see something on the horizon. I know how every quest works, how world events work, best way to make gold and reputation. It's as the saying goes "money can't buy happiness" but in this case I'm so cursed with knowledge I can't exactly call it an adventure the only variable that changes is how I decide to play that day. If I come across another player ship 9 times out of 10 it's never friendly. The community has it's toxicity as do most online games but. This toxicity is what keeps out newer players from joining, the cancer being the meta and those that know how to exploit newer crews that play. I know it's a pirate game but newer people can't enjoy the game being pub stomped.

That being said my negative review isn't saying this game is bad and not to stay away from it. But as it stands for me personally I cannot speak positive about it. I see what they plan to add season 14 and just feel sad. It's gonna make the pvp even more toxic and just make it impossible for me to engage in it. I wanted to save my review for this game when I hit 1k hours on steam but I doubt I will ever reach that so here is my review now.

PS: Rare you have catered too much to the pvp and the deletion of Arena made adventure too toxic for New players just look at the PS5 launch, it brought in new players yet all of them have seemed to not continue to play. The PVP on demand with the most sought after Curses locked behind a grind that is hellishly painful to endure. You give us Flameheart's return 2 YEARS LATER!! Yet you were so quick to rebuild Golden Sands into Port Merrick. We have yet to see anything majorly new. (New Sea Creature, New ship type maybe? New part of the map?)

Goodbye for now Sea of Thieves..We shall sail together again someday. Pirates for all Eternity.

I'm not too good at it and other players are, so if you're not good at pvp I highly recommend staying far away from other ships. Remember: trust no one, not even yourself

If you want to just dig up treasure and fight easy ass skeletons, do it up. You'll love this game.

If you actually want to play the game and fight other boats and steal treasure and be a pirate, This game has gone from a true gem in the pvpve genre to an absolute dumpster fire in all sorts of ways.

Game breaking bugs that never really get fixed, but every patch introduces new ones. Seriously. Hit reg. Bucket Reg. Food Reg. Cannon Reg. Chainshot reg. Your boat going completely under the waves. Your gun not shooting. You name it, something about it doesnt work.

Cheaters are now running rampant. They can actually give temp bans and dox players now through the game. They teleport to your cannons and zero-spread blunderbuss you from across your boat. cannon aimbots. Players flying around dropping kegs on your boat. God mode.

Finally, about 80% of the playerbase are pve potatoes that will run against the wind because there is no way to catch them if their boat is the correct matchup against yours, zero chase mechanic. So, about 80% of the boats you come across just run away from you into the wind. Since the timmies make a huge majority of the player base, rare caters to them by constantly nerfing the pvp community through things like getting rid of mechanics in the game since launch. nerfing double gunning at the same time releasing weapons that are all but worthless. Rare legit hates PvP, so don't get this game if you were hoping for that.

They have solid ideas, but they always ruin it by not following through. Most recently is the burning blade addition, where you can't even take the boat over from other crews, only sink it or commandeer it from pve. They took what could have been an absolute blast and ruined it.

As a player with 3k steam hours and over 5k total, stay away. Game is in its death throws. They only really put effort into updating their emporium shop.
