The Sims™ 4

The Sims™ 4

A few questions
Hi,

I'm going to be downloading Sims 4 soon, and I'd like to know some things about the expansion packs. Help is much appreciated!

My first question is this. Can you have a cafe without DLC? I'd like to make my own cafe, but I don't know if that's possible without DLC.

Secondly, I get the impression from online that you can adopt stays without the dogs and cats DLC. Is this true? And what does the dogs and cats DLC give you?

And finally, is the game any fun without expansion packs? I'm only looking to create a cafe and have a few cats and dog strays that I've adopted. I'm not looking to have a family or go into that side of things. So would it actually be any fun without extra DLC?

Thanks you so much to anybody who answers even one of these questions!

If you want cats and dogs, you usually need the expansion, or a mod. The DLC not only gives you cats and dogs but also a new world (Brindleton Bay) and a new career (vet), plus lots of stuff for your Sims, very nice build and decorative items... personally, I think it's one of the best packs out there. I'm not sure if the base game offers enough stuff to build a cafe or if it allows you to build the cafe you want. You can always use mods, though.

And yes, the game is fun without expansions, in fact, I would try playing the base game for a while and see how you like it. Also, like I said, you can use mods if you don't want to buy DLCs.
Thanks for the help :) Do you know if you can adopt simple strays in the base game?

Any other help will still be useful though! Still need to find out whether it's actually possible to have a cafe...

I really can't say if the base game has any strays at all... but since it's free, you can just download it and see if you like it :) There should be items that allow you to build a cafe but I think your Sim won't be able to run it as a business because that's tied to either the restaurant DLC (Dine out) or the Get to Work-DLC, not sure which... but like I said, you don't have to spend money on the DLCs because there's a mod for pretty much everything out there. I'm sure others can help you finding the best mods; I've never used any, so I couldn't tell you which ones are good.

Yes... kinda makes sense.

Butt more help still appreciated!
It depends on your definition of have a cafe. If you just want the building, you can download any player created building from the gallery and place it on an empty lot, however, if you want to run it or have in game sims come to it, you will need the dine out pack.

I've been watching this series

and I'd like to have a cafe like the one in that video.
(She's not actually opened the cafe yet but she will soon and it gives you the idea of what I'm hoping to do :)
And I also have another question now... which sims is Seri playing in that video? I'm not sure if it's sims 4 or sims 3...

That's Sims 4, and I'm pretty sure she's playing in Brindleton Bay (the map that comes with Cats & Dogs), though I can't remember ever having seen that fair 🤔 The base game has a nice selection of kitchen counters and appliances as well as tables and chairs, so you should be able to build a cafe, in fact, I think most of the counters in the video are base game - the ones by the window in the back. The stove definitely is base game, the small table, too. The little icons in the top left corner of every item's picture in the build menu are pretty helpful, too, becaue they show you which item is base game (everything without a tiny icon), an expansion or a mod.

If you want to download a building from the gallery, make sure to check which packs were used, otherwise the building might be missing bits and pieces.

Right, that's very useful. One question: Can you make the food and sell it? And go to the farmers market?
Jehane 9 Sep @ 2:16pm
I think you need the foodstall if you want to sell the food... and the farmer's market is probably tied to the Cottage Living expansion. I'm still wondering what kind of fair that is in the video, I can't remember ever seeing that before. Maybe my Sims should get out more and visit all those festivals and events.
Xeriath 9 Sep @ 3:40pm
If you want to sell food then you need almost home chef hustle stuff pack. With the sale table from this stuff pack guest will only grab on serving and pay for one serving. If you use another sale table, they will purchase the whole serving.

For a working café you need a mod as example: LittleMsSam live in Business but here you need the DLC Get Together EP.

As Jehane wrote strays only exist if you have the DLC. Sadly many content is locked under DLC and some mods have a dependency on a DLC. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun with the base game but your selection is limited what you can do.

Oh well.

A final question: Does the cats and dogs DLC go on offer, and if so, how much to?

Yes the sims 4 often has sales, i think the cheapest I've seen it is £13 but its normally £15-18 when on sale :)

She's opened her café now, please can somebody tell me which DLC I would need if I wanted to open a café business like the one in that video? Or just how to open a café...! :D
Jehane 11 Sep @ 11:35am
I think she's using Get to Work. That one comes with a few new jobs and also allows you to open and run your own business, such as a café. DLCs frequently go on sale, both here and in the EA app, and both platforms frequently offer bundles, too.
