I know what you're thinking. 300 hours and the game is not recommended? That doesn't sound right.

Well let me tell you I enjoyed the heck out of the previous titles and I was really looking forward to this one. I bought the game in its "finished" state with all the DLCs and I have spent all those hours trying to find the fun in the game, convinced that if I just do something different I can finally enjoy myself and build my dream farm.

I'm sure there's a good game in there somewhere, but the game and its systems are constantly getting in your way of, well... farming. Unless your preferred play style is running a small hobby farm on one of the pre-built farms that the game offers you're going to run into frustration and disappointment.

Any dreams you may have of building your own farm on more than a couple of hectares of land, well I hope you have more patience for jankiness and "what the heck do I do with all this straw" than I do. The maps are gorgeous, but trying to place anything like a cow barn requires a dance of saving, terraforming, attempting to place the thing you want, finding out you didn't do it right, quitting and reloading your save. It gets tedious very quickly and because the game is a single save per farm, there's no way to make manual saves to either go back to a previous state for your farm or save individual steps so that you can, say, adjust your terraforming before trying again without starting completely over. (Yes, there's a way to make manual backups of your saves on PC, no that doesn't really help.)

I have plenty of other examples of things and systems in the game that ended up frustrating me and ultimately I couldn't even solve with mods. I can only hope that Farm Sim 25 spends time polishing all these pain points and not just adding new crops with minimal support (grapes and olives anyone?) and prettier graphics.
