Actually no, I gave up. Played other action roguelite like Hades with much better progress and success since than.
Generally, I'd say getting the gas in your car should be priority number 1, then scouting for antivirals/batteries. I'll often pop an antiviral early, or spend more time in a zone looting if I have a fair amount of batteries and run across an antiviral case that needs a battery to open. They become more rare as you get deeper in. Dedicating a run to scavenging batteries to stash can really pay dividends later, too.
For the last zone, I'd recommend just rushing to get gas and leaving for the next zone as fast as possible. You can even leave zones if they're looking too dangerous without having enough gas to finish the trip, as you'll always find gas when you break down. I think you can find antiviral boxes in breakdown zones sometimes too, but you need a battery to take it.
I would get speed of refueling too, anything that gets you to the next zone faster means less anti-viral needed. I think the biggest tip is just to not waste time, and to realize when your run didn't start well, and just stash what might save your life in another run.
At the supply depot with Trinity, make sure to buy any battery or electronics drops, which you can get in crafting caches, etc. When choosing a survivor, if they have a battery, pick them no matter what else they have. Use all electronics to craft batteries.
With the starting antivirus, I let myself get to the first mutation, since it's usually an advantage, unless I get lucky and find more antivirus drops early. Also it's best to hold one in case those fat guys explode on you, then you gotta take it. He only appears in the 1st area, so you only have to worry there. You should stop at the Trader, but only if he's enroute to the safe house/exit of the Suburbs, as he usually has a guaranteed battery. Then, stop at the HERC Blockaid before you leave Suburbs to get 2 near guaranteed antiviruses.
Likewise you should be able to skip most of the Mountains, stopping only at the major points of interest. Now you're forced to only move 1 location at a time in Sunken City to do more exploring to stock up on basic resources. But you really shouldn't be stopping much in the early game.
Regardless of all this, the final section of Sunken City is incredibly difficult on first try, as some unexpected things happen. You will likely get some additional practice with this strategy
I haven't played in over a year so hopefully someone else can chime in here
From the car screen, they are the ones with the shield. It tells you HERC facility on the map legend. But, there are many more drops that you won't see on the map. When you enter an area, go in focus mode (left trigger) and you see the ?s denoting major items. If you approach them and see a syringe/cigarette looking thing, that's the antivirus. They can appear in a lot more places than just inside a HERC facility.
Also in some HERC facilities, you can exchange 5 infected blood samples for 1 antivirus. You'll want to always be carrying at least 5. You get them guaranteed from bosses (the big fat guy before he explodes, the big charging guy, the leaping fellow, and in Sunken City the acid spitter) and also a random chance from regulars
here is a tip: be juiced all the time, dont wander needlessly, give um hell, hades
i failed some times before i succeeded a full run. and id probably still fail once in a while for whatever reason.
