Progress update on the Offline Client - Crossplay & Mobile

Hello everyone!

I thought it would be a good idea to provide an update on the progress of the Offline Client since we released it into Beta on Steam two months ago.

Crossplay Compatibility

In our Steam Beta announcement, we mentioned that content purchased on one platform (e.g., Steam) wouldn’t be accessible offline on another platform (e.g., Mobile). Based on your feedback, we’ve worked on a solution to address this.

I'm happy to say we are implementing a system that caches and validates your purchases for up to 30 days while offline. This timer resets each time you load the game with an internet connection.

This feature is the main reason the Offline Client hasn’t been fully released yet. We’re actively working on it and aim to have it ready for further testing and release in the coming weeks.

Mobile Progress

Development of the Android and iOS Offline Client is nearly complete—about 90% done—and will soon be ready for testing! We plan to share an iOS TestFlight link soon, so you can try it out even before Crossplay compatibility is finalised.

Anything else being worked on?

Offline Client now available for Beta testing

The Offline Client is now available for public Beta testing. This brings full offline functionality to Melvor Idle, allowing you to play the game without an internet connection.

It is available to test on Windows, MacOS and Linux (including Steam Deck).

How to access

You can access the Beta test on Steam by using the Beta code offlineStage2.

Your saves are shared between the Live game and the Offline client. There are no actual changes to the game itself as it runs the existing Live version, just with offline functionality.

Important information about the Offline Client

There's a few important considerations to take note of.

1) You must first load the game once with an internet connection (Up to the character select screen).
This will automatically download and save the remaining requires files needed to function that were not bundled with Steam itself. This occurs silently in the background.

2) You cannot access your Cloud Saves or cross-platform purchases when in Offline mode.
If there is no internet connection available, the game will enter Offline mode. While in Offline mode, Cloud saves are not available and cross-platform purchases cannot be verified. It will default to purchase verification for the platform you are playing on.

This is due to these features requiring internet access to a 3rd party service.

The game will make it extremely clear when it is in Offline Mode.

3) The game will check for updates on load and automatically apply them without needing a client restart.
Everything is handled silently in the background. If you wish to not have the game update, you can disable its internet access via your respective OS settings or Firewall.

If there is no game update, it will use the local offline files to function with access to Cloud Saves and cross-platform purchases enabled.

Mods in Offline Mode

You can use and manage your Mod Profiles while in Offline mode. However, you cannot search/download new mods (as this requires an internet connection).

Any changes to your Mod profile while Offline will automatically attempt to syncronise with your Melvor Cloud account when loaded with an internet connection. If there is a conflict of mod profile changes, the game will ask you to confirm which Mod profile settings to use.

There is a chance some mods may not function in Offline mode and will require an update to do so (if possible).

Offline Client for Epic Games and Mobile

Now that the primary offline client is setup and ready to go, we can now work to bring it to other platforms. Epic Games shouldn't be too far away, and mobile needs quite a bit of work to allow this to function due to quite a few restrictions we are running into.

99% of the below relates to the Into the Abyss Expansion. Notes that affect the whole game will be marked as [All].

New

Implemented a new Realm Select. This appears in the sidebar instead of within Skills themselves.
Added an “Enter/Leave Abyssal Realm” option in the Sidebar, allowing you to easily enter/exit the Abyssal Realm. It will show as locked if not available.
Added “Select Realm” sidebar menu item that will appear if more than 2 visible Realms are available, allowing you to change Realms from here.
Skills with category selection (Like Artisan Skills) will now only display categories from the Realm you are currently in.
Combat will now only show Categories that contain at least 1 area from the Realm you are currently in.
Skills in the sidebar will now have a slightly transparent look if they contain no content for the Realm you are currently in.
The Abyssal Realm now applies a special theme to the Sidebar when inside.
Added a new Setting to re-enable the Legacy Realm selection for those who prefer that over the new one.
Added a Pet hint text to Area Info for Strongholds mentioning that it only drops from Superior Tier.
[All] Added Bank Filters via a new icon next to the Bank Tab summary. This allows you to show/hide items based on some predefined filters. Those with Into the Abyss will see more filters than those who don’t own it.
[All] Added combination runes setting to the My Runes page in Combat.
[All] Add colour coding of requirements to Upgrade Item popup.

New Settings:

“Use Legacy Realm Selection” - Disabled by default - Hides the new Sidebar Realm Selection options and enables the old Realm Selection in all Skills.
“Always show Legacy Realm Selection in Agility” - Enabled by default - Will enable the legacy Realm Selection in Agility only, allowing you to quickly switch back and forth between Realms within the Skill without affecting the other Skills.
“Set Skill in Sidebar to slightly transparent if there is no content for the current Realm (New Realm select only).” - Enabled by default - Skills will show as transparent in the Sidebar if they have no content for the current Realm. Only works if using the new Realm Selection.

General Changes & Balance

Abyssal Combat Areas are now called Abyssal Battlegrounds. Modifier descriptions have also been updated for the new name.
Abyssal Slayer Areas are now called Abyssal Slayer Regions. Modifier descriptions have also been updated for the new name.
Changing Realms will now change the Realm for ALL Skills (unless using the Legacy Realm selection setting).
Added Witherlyme Seed drop to WIthering Ruins Thieving area as a unique area drop
Added Whispertallow Seed drop to Silent Crypt Thieving area as a unique area drop
Added Echosnap Seed drop to Void Vaults Thieving area as a unique area drop
Increased Void Essence drop quantity in Void Vaults Thieving area to 2, up from 1.
Shadow Tormentor now drops up to 10 Gloomite Throwing Knives, down from 30

Recipe Costs

Heavily reduced the costs to create Arrows, Javelins, Bolts and Crossbows in Fletching.
Removed one Item from the recipe cost of most Rings & Amulets in Crafting
Reduced the quantity required of Rings & Amulets required for upgraded version (II).
Removed the Ring/Amulet item requirement for Obzurian Rings & Amulets in Crafting.
Removed the Brumite Bar cost for Gloomite Gear in Smithing.
Removed the Gloomite Bar cost for Witherite Gear in Smithing.
Halved the Witherite Bar cost quantity for Netherite Gear in Smithing.

Weapon Balance

Reduced all Abyssal Throwing Knife special attack chances down to 25%, from 50%.
Reduced all Abyssal Throwing Knife Ranged Strength Bonuses by 25%
Increased Ranged Strength Bonus of all Abyssal Crossbows by 10%
Increased Ranged Strength Bonus for all Abyssal Arrows by 5%
Increased Melee Strength Bonus of all Abyssal 2H Swords by 10%
Increased Special Attack chance of all Abyssal Smithable Swords (not 2H) by 15%
Increased Magic Damage Bonus of all Abyssal Wands by +3%

XP Balancing

We’ve reworked the early to mid-game XP rates for Into the Abyss, allowing progression in the early stages to be a lot faster for Non-Combat Skills. This will allow you to get straight into ItA content without the long early-game waits.

Summary: All the new XP values are higher than before the update.

“Create a Mod” Contest 2024! $3,000 USD in cash prizes up for grabs!

Hello everyone!

The team has been working hard behind the scenes and we are excited to finally announce our “Create a Mod” contest for 2024! We had some incredible submissions in 2023, so we are extremely excited to see what 2024 has to offer.

Please make sure you read this entire post carefully before making a submission.

Overview

The theme of this contest is “content”. This means you are tasked to create a Mod for Melvor Idle that adds some form of new content to the game.

Any mod that adds at least 1 of the following will be eligible:

How to Enter

Submissions without the tag will not be accepted.

Rules

Only one submission per player is allowed.
A player cannot submit a pre-existing mod for this contest.
The user who submits the Mod will be classed as the sole winner, and the prizes will be delivered to that user only in full. Submissions on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.
No NSFW content. This is at the sole discretion of the Melvor Idle team.
No copyrighted content (Eg. art assets from other games). This is at the sole discretion of the Melvor Idle team.
If you do not follow the “How to Enter” steps correctly, your submission will not be accepted.
Mods submitted after the official “Submissions End” date and time will not be accepted.
You may update your Mod as many times as you like during the Submission period.
Updates to your Mod are not permitted after the official “submissions end” date. Any Mods that are updated after the official “submissions end” date will not be eligible.
You may continue to update your mod as you please after the “Winners Officially Announced” date.
You are more than welcome to create a Reddit thread with your Mod, or post it in our Discord server within the relevant Mod channels.

How the Community Vote Will Work

After the close of the contest, a public Google Form will be shared which lists all the submissions. Players will be able to vote for their top 3 favourite mods using this form.
Voting officially begins on the above-listed “Community Voting Begins” date and time.
At the end of the voting period, the top 10 mods with the most votes will be selected and announced via our socials!

Submissions will not be accepted after Tuesday, 1 October @ 11:59pm GMT+1.

Update Preview - v1.3.1 - New Realm Select, Bank Filters, ItA Balancing and more

Hello everyone!

It’s been a minute since I’ve provided an update on what we’re working on behind the scenes, so I thought now would be a good chance to give you a sneak peek at the upcoming v1.3.1 update (no ETA yet).

This update primarily focuses on Into the Abyss and addressing feedback we’ve received around it.

Important Notes

98% of these changes relate to the Into the Abyss Expansion.
This update is not yet released, and there’s no ETA just yet. Once balancing and translations are finalised, we will release it.
- I'd also like to release the Offline Client - Stage 2 at the same time as this update, so hopefully everything aligns and I can get everything out in one go.
The changes are not final, as we still have general balance changes and fixes to implement.

- It uses different saves, so just log into your Cloud account and import your live save.
- DO NOT export from the Beta back into the Live game before the update is released publically. It won't work and will corrupt your save! You can do so once we release the update and the versions match (Eg. v1.3.1).

New Realm Select

One of the primary points of feedback comes around the Realm Select that was implemented, and how it works between Skills. It was a bit confusing or frustrating to be constantly navigating dropdowns to select your desired Realm and the content within.

We are introducing a new Realm select feature that separates Realms even more, and hopefully aligns more with how Realms ended up being implemented in the end.

Summary of Features:

Realm Select has moved from Skills themselves to the Sidebar
Added a new “Enter/Leave Abyssal Realm” button that controls the Realm for every Skill.
Skills no longer show their Realm select. Instead, they only show the content available in your current Realm.
Artisan Skills and Combat will only show categories for the Realm you are currently in.
If there are more than 2 available Realms, a new “Select Realm” dropdown in the sidebar will appear allowing you to select other Realms.
Entering/Exiting the Abyssal Realm will automatically change the sidebar to show/hide Abyssal Levels, AP, ASC and Soul Points.
Skills in the Sidebar will have a slight transparent style applied to them if it contains no content for the Realm you are currently inside.
Sidebar adjusts its style when inside the Abyssal Realm.
The Abyssal Realm will show as Locked in the sidebar, and clicking on it will display its unlock requirements.
Ability to swap back the “Legacy” Realm select from settings if you preferred that.

Enter/Leave Abyssal Realm

The sidebar now has a new “Enter/Leave Abyssal Realm” button that will control the Realm for every Skill including Combat. Clicking this option will change the Realm for every Skill, and will adjust menu options and available Skill content based on the Realm.

Select Realm Option

If other Realms are available, whether it be from Mods or the game itself, you’ll be able to select them from a new dropdown menu. This menu only appears if other Realms are available. If the Abyssal Realm is the only other Realm, then this option is hidden.

Bank Filters

The Bank is getting some predefined filters that will allow you to show/hide certain types of Items that you may not want to see. It’s only in a basic state at the moment, so options are limited for this release.

Using the Bank Search will adhere to your filters. If its hidden from the Bank, it will be hidden from the search.

Ability to toggle visibility of items per Expansion.

Additional Filters for Into the Abyss (only shows if you have the Expansion loaded):

Show/Hide weapons that use Normal Damage/Abyssal Damage
Show/Hide equipment that has Damage Reduction/Abyssal Resistance.
Show/Hide items that modify Skill XP
Show/Hide items that modify Abyssal XP

Into the Abyss Recipe Costs

We’re making some of the recipe costs for Into the Abyss a lot nicer to train on:

Heavily reduced the costs to create Arrows, Javelins, Bolts and Crossbows in Fletching.
Removed one Item completely from the recipe cost of most Abyssal Rings & Amulets in Crafting
Reduced the quantity required of Abyssal Rings & Amulets required for upgraded version (II).
Removed the Ring/Amulet item requirement for Obzurian Rings & Amulets in Crafting.
Removed the Brumite Bar cost for Gloomite Gear in Smithing.
Removed the Gloomite Bar cost for Witherite Gear in Smithing.
Halved the Witherite Bar cost quantity for Netherite Gear in Smithing.

Into the Abyss Early-Mid XP Balancing

We’ve reworked the early to mid-game XP rates for Into the Abyss, allowing progression in the early stages to be a lot faster for most (not all) Non-Combat Skills. This will allow you to get into ItA content a bit faster than before.

Early game content sees double the XP rate, which scales downward until around Abyssal Level 30-35ish.

New

Implemented a new Realm Select. This appears in the sidebar instead of within Skills themselves.
Added an “Enter/Leave Abyssal Realm” option in the Sidebar, allowing you to easily enter/exit the Abyssal Realm. It will show as locked if not available.
Added “Select Realm” sidebar menu item that will appear if more than 2 visible Realms are available, allowing you to change Realms from here.
Skills with category selection (Like Artisan Skills) will now only display categories from the Realm you are currently in.
Combat will now only show Categories that contain at least 1 area from the Realm you are currently in.
Skills in the sidebar will now have a slightly transparent look if they contain no content for the Realm you are currently in.
The Abyssal Realm now applies a special theme to the Sidebar when inside.
Added a new Setting to re-enable the Legacy Realm selection for those who prefer that over the new one.
Added Bank Filters via a new icon next to the Bank Tab summary. This allows you to show/hide items based on some predefined filters. Those with Into the Abyss will see more filters than those who don’t own it.

General Changes

Abyssal Combat Areas are now called Abyssal Battlegrounds. Modifier descriptions have also been updated for the new name.
Abyssal Slayer Areas are now called Abyssal Slayer Regions. Modifier descriptions have also been updated for the new name.
Changing Realms will now change the Realm for ALL Skills (unless using the Legacy Realm selection setting).
Added Witherlyme Seed drop to WIthering Ruins Thieving area as a unique area drop
Added Whispertallow Seed drop to Silent Crypt Thieving area as a unique area drop
Added Echosnap Seed drop to Void Vaults Thieving area as a unique area drop
Increased Void Essence drop quantity in Void Vaults Thieving area to 2, up from 1.

Update on Offline Client - Stage 2

We're still working on Stage 2 of the Offline Client which brings full offline functionality to the Desktop Clients (Stage 3 is Mobile). It's quite the task to undertake, but we're making good progress on it.

Stage 2 required us to completely rewrite how the game loads in order to achieve full offline functionality. It's a bunch of stuff you'll never notice or see when we actually release the update, but its something we have to do to make it work.

Stage 2 is probably the stage that takes the most amount of time. After we release it, we hope it won't be too much effort to bring it directly to Mobile as well.

Game Update

This update mostly focuses on fixing a lot of the outstanding bug reports and issues that have been present in the game.

New

Add passive cooking interval source tooltip to passive cook button
Equip requirements in View Item Info popup is now colour coded depending on whether the requirement is met or not.
Added clear option to reset Bank Tab icon to default.
It's now possible to force the game to refresh the associated Steam account that is linked to your Cloud account. To do so, click the "Steam" text on the character select screen and click the relevant option (the game will reload).
- This option is only useful for those having troubles with the wrong Steam account being linked to their account.
- This can only be done via the Steam Client.

Changes

We have converted every single SVG file to PNG, and replaced all instances in the game with the new image. The reasoning behind this is that SVG file are heavy to process, especially when there were over 700 of them being used in our game. Not sure if this will have an actual impact on performance, but it might.
- This should also fix the icon colour issues seen on some Android devices running the non-Beta app.
Renamed "Normal Attack" (The attack itself) to "Regular Attack".
Replaced all instances of "perform a normal attack" with "perform a regular attack" (In attack descriptions).
Increase notification queue limit to 20 to fix some issues with notifications not displaying when many actions are performed at same time (like cutting 5 trees at once lol)
Aorpheats Signet Ring now provides +10% chance to double items in Thieving, up from +5%.
[ItA] Cooking & Farming menus with Realm selection will now automatically default to the Realm of the last selected Recipe/planted seed (not retroactive). This includes the Realm selection in the "Spend Mastery XP" and "Mastery Checkpoints" popup.
[ItA] Sanctuary, Divine Sanctuary, Ethereal Sanctuary, and Void Sanctuary will no longer degrade in Township.
[ItA] The unlock requirements tooltip for Realms will no longer display on hover/tap when the Realm is unlocked.
Removed the "Major update released" message on character selection screen.

Fixes

Adjusted interface loading process.
- Also added significantly more logging in attempt to catch errors.
Reworked how the game distinguishes between Desktop and Mobile layouts. This should resolve a few UI issues on certain devices and screen sizes.
- The game will now automatically swap from Desktop UI to Mobile UI (and vice versa) upon manual screen size adjustment without needing to reload.
- iPad/Tablet screens should now display the Desktop UI to fit more elements on the screen (Depending on screen size)
Fix flatPotionCharges modifier not working for realm specific versions. This fixes the 95% Mastery Pool Checkpoint for Abyssal Herblore.
Adjust Frostburn to use damageGroups and behaviours to handle damage per turn. This fixes the issue with the damage not capping correctly as per the description.
Fix flat Currency gain modifiers working in Alt. Magic when they are not supposed to.

[ItA] The Skill Tree dropdown menu now colour codes the available points to spend based on whether there is a node you can unlock or not (Red = no, green = yes).
Added a “Clear App Cache” option to the bottom of the Character Select screen for Mobile.

Fixed

[ItA] Fix Skill Tree dropdown menu not automatically updating points to spend after unlocking a node.
[ItA] Fix Township buildings not showing the total Fortification they provide.
[AoD] Fix being unable to select the same button twice when picking Ancient Relic level cap increases
Fix Gem Preserver Scrolls being used when making non-Jewelry items in Crafting.
Corrected many missing, broken or unnecessary HTML errors.
Added visible logging of save loading progress in an effort to track down potential unknown errors during a save’s loading process that doesn’t produce a popup error.

Updated and added translations for content that was yet to be translated, as well as fixed translations for various reported issues.

[ItA] Fix missing 2% AR on Abyssium Helmet
[ItA] Removed completion requirements from some items that were not meant to be tagged for completion.
Fix Agility View All Passives button not showing pillar bonuses
[AoD] Fix some preservation chance sources in AR mode not showing in preservation sources
