Guild Wars 2
Is the game dying?
Are players still active or growing at all? Or is the game on a decline?

Genuine question. Thank you.

Dead games don't tend to get new expansions :P Just came back myself the world seems active ppl running about with mounts that's new to me :)
Just started to play for the first time ever and it seems quite lively
The game (all MMOs in general) is on a decline. It's still one of the top MMOs, population wise.

Newest expansion will launch on August 20th.

Last content update was May 21st.

Last update for reoccurring seasonal event rewards was July 30th.

Why are MMOs on a decline in your opinion? Frequent updates are a nice thing.

Just a rather large increase in the number of online style games. It's not that less people are interested in MMOs, just a saturation of MOBA, FPS, MMO, ARPG, Survival-Craft, etc.

And there are a lot of games per category. Thanks.

I'd say it's on a slow decline. Lots of life left in it still. This next expansion could make or break it though.

As a player with over 7k hours in this game, I’d say it’s getting pretty boring, especially since I only enjoy WvW roaming. I take breaks for months at a time, but it’s always easy to jump back in.

The point is, I think many other players feel the same way, but the game isn’t going to die anytime soon because old players always come back.
Certainly not dying. The thing with GW2 is that it’s a side MMO for a lot of people so it’s popularity is directly influenced by how good/bad WoW/FFXIV/whatever is at the moment.
gotta love how all mmo forums have this kind of questions every week even more when threads like this were available in front page.

it's the neverending story, that question will be asked endlessly in every moba, mmo, shooter, battleroyale etc any online multiplayer game forum etc. I started playing SMITE in 2017 and back then people were already asking or affirming "game is dead? its dying? when?" 7 years later the game still working... To answer op question, No, the game is in good state and there's plenty of people around, id advice deleting this thread later to avoid feeding people who loves causing unrest and spread misinformation.

Not just MMOs anymore. People here on Steam started to apply this ‘is it dead’ logic to full-single player games. Gotta be some trend.
If WoW and FFXIV are considered A Tier in terms of Healthy...

I would say Guild Wars 2 is at B Tier, probably along side Black Desert.

Lord of the Rings Online is probably C tier.
what? game is full, each meta event have hundreds of players.....

Exactly this. I have over 4000 PvP matches and used to enjoy WvW. The company has refused to care about the Asian/Oceanic community and base the servers in NA and EU. This means ping of over 200.

They also do not want to consider how they could improve the WvW mechanics. So they shuffle the server populations and apply bandages instead of seriously addressing the injuries.

This has been the reality since inception and I do not fault them for sticking with a semi decent MMO cash cow that will squeeze every waking second out of you for things you get in other games by default. But that is another post on its own.
The game feels quite lively, I am relatively new to the game and am currently playing the path of fire expansion map and find many players doing events and helping new players.
