Like, I get it, but that's a bit of a doomer sentiment there homie, Roboquest also had a low player count during its early days and it got done recently. Even if it takes a while, there's not a lot of THPS games out there, so i have a bit of faith here, not like there's a lot of competition around, idk, if they're passionate enough i'm willing to bet on them, which, i kinda did already.
I hope they find their footing on marketing, but, again, niche genre.
I'm just saying, posts like yours or OP are useless, offer some answers, advices, ideas, who knows, maybe it'll help them get ideas on how to get the word out instead of just being a downer.
the roboquest comparison is an unfair one imo, since its (admittedly low) playercount always was orders of magnitude higher than helskate's. what's probably more important though, is that helskate appears to be self-published, while roboquest has an established publisher behind it (starbreeze), that can help sustain development despite low upfront sales.
as far as advice goes, one thing that i would suggest to avoid has already happened: imho helskate entered into early access too early, in a state (bad performance rather than missing content) that causes a significant number of players who gave it a chance to bounce off it. of course i don't have any insight into phantom coast's finances, but from the outside, entering early access in that state looks like the devs needed money to flow in sooner rather than later. this is understandable and i don't have a problem with it, it just makes me wonder if the devs can keep the lights on if the sales numbers are as low as it seems and there is no publisher to step into the breach.
but what's done is done, so my advice going forward: i view it as crucial that the game has a solid, well-running skeleton and is mostly missing content by the next time it is pushed into the spotlight (be it through a paid marketing effort or a steam event). in other words, focus on growing the trunk and worry about the branches later (i would have backloaded the entire story like "the long dark" did frankly). the steam storefront is so packed with trash, small games don't get many shots at standing out. with the review aggregate already being middling and no player base to speak of, i don't think helskate can really afford another miss.
again, i get that this reads very negative but it is not my intention to knock helskate down. i actually hope i'm wrong about what i think because i was very excited about it before the early access release, immediately re-wishlisted it after refunding and genuinely hope it turns into the game i was hoping for from the marketing material.
There is a big difference between Roboquest and Helskate.
Roboquest demo is still available. Even though the game is in full release they apparently want people to play the demo and buy the game.
Helskate doesn't care about attracting new players. Of course the game will tank.
EDIT: as of today Roboquest has been out for 6 months. Has the demo ever been removed?
Lol. Yup. That's why I am complaining.
No need to stan for a game with bad business practices just because it's too late for you to refund your bad purchase.
Edit:
Nevermind. I see you don't own this junk either.
Time sensitive demos and trials have been around for decades. From all your crying, you sound like you haven't been around that long, so ask your parents and they'll explain that to you as well.
Maybe mow your neighbor's grass or wait until your next birthday for the $25, champ.
I didn't bring up money at all. You did. You have already said what you are concerned with.
