Sid Meier's Civilization VII

Sid Meier's Civilization VII

The leaders look god awful in this game
First we get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Hatshepsut and Augustus from the showcase, and now this?

Himiko looks like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Sims character here

I know it's from Switch trailer, but the leaders we saw from the PC showcase didn't look good either

Just wait until you hear what happens in the Exploration and Modern Age. I'll just say this. Imagine if Firaxis was bought by Disney and they absolutely don't care about the Civilization franchise at all, but simply wanted to expand their audience to include the Disney demographic between 5 to 12 years old. Expect the game to be simplified further to allow the average Disney enjoyer to believe they're making BIG BRAIN STRATEGY! This will be hands down the most accessible Civilization game ever made. It will make Civilization Revolutions feel like Chess.

Himiko isn't even a real historical character by Japanese scriptures. Her kingdom is better documented in Chinese literature, which differ significantly from Japanese historians of that era.

On top of that:

The country formerly had a man as ruler. For some seventy or eighty years after that there were disturbances and warfare. Thereupon the people agreed upon a woman for their ruler. Her name was Himiko [卑弥呼]. She occupied herself with magic and sorcery, bewitching the people. Though mature in age, she remained unmarried. She had a younger brother who assisted her in ruling the country. After she became the ruler, there were few who saw her. She had one thousand women as attendants, but only one man. He served her food and drink and acted as a medium of communication. She resided in a palace surrounded by towers and stockades, with armed guards in a state of constant vigilance.

Among all possible cool Japanese historical leaders, and among all possible female Japanese historical figures, you had to pick the one that reck the most to be an unhinge HR lady with power.

You might as well pick Yoko Ono next time.

This, I don't think this is the final version of that character. Seems more like a placeholder vs other chars.

No the problem really aren't the gfx with this game, I love them already tbh.

They do look horrible and while I suspect they'll be improved, I wouldn't expect any improvement to be by an order of magnitude better. But honestly, I don't care at all. I'm happy with 2D art without any animation or even none at all. Old World doesn't have any animated leaders or even 3D art and it's one of the best hiistorical 4X games we have at the moment. Millenia doesn't even have any leader artwork at all and that's fine by me too because I can 'see' the leaders for myself.

It's the gameplay that matters and that's all. But if you're going to go with realistic animated 3D characters, you have to do it right so they'll take a hit for it.
