I would highly recommend this one, even at full price, as I had a great time the entire way through. The story is cool enough, the gameplay and weapons really nail what the boomer shooter genre is all about. Its fast paced, gorey to a T, and engaging. The level design here is very good, and fits the gameplay very well. The "upgrade" system is just deep enough where I felt it made a difference, and the boss battles are epic and really well done. TLDR: Pick this one up at full price, or even better, at a discount and you'll have a great time. Fantastic entry into the genre and sits right up there with some of the heavy hitter staples that have come to define this genre.

If you're a fan of old-school first-person shooters with a modern twist, Dread Templar is a blast from the past that you shouldn't miss. The game masterfully captures the fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled action of classics like Doom and Quake, but adds enough unique elements to feel fresh and engaging.

The gunplay is incredibly satisfying, with a wide array of weapons to experiment with—dual katanas and shotguns are personal favorites! The combat system is smooth and brutal, and the level design encourages exploration with secret areas, upgrades, and clever puzzles.

The art style blends retro pixel aesthetics with modern lighting and effects, giving the game a gritty, old-school charm. Plus, the soundtrack absolutely slaps, though i'd definitely add a bit more variety of it.

What really stands out, though, is the game's progression system. The Templar skill tree lets you customize your playstyle, unlocking abilities and perks that make combat even more fun. You get to approach battles the way you want, whether that's close-quarters carnage or long-range destruction.

If you are a masochist, go ahead and play on the maximum difficulty since it's just painfully hard.

If you’re a sucker for fast-paced, blood-soaked shooter action with a hint of nostalgia, Dread Templar hits all the right notes. It's a love letter to the '90s FPS era, with modern sensibilities that make it more than just a tribute.

It starts good and it gets even better when you unlock powerful upgrades for your weapons. Level design is top-notch (every level is packed with tons of secrets, easter eggs and bits of lore) and the soundtrack is simply epic (and should be sold with the game). It deserves a sequel.

Invisible walls everywhere. The self damage distance from the rocket launcher is too far out. There are enemies that can shoot you through other enemies without damaging them. There are some poorly telegraphed 'fall down here and die'-areas and pitfalls that are completely black that both serve to discourage exploration. The final boss part is very irritating in multiple ways. The small bits of narrative voice acting are terrible and could simply be removed. The music is OK sometimes, but it's often leaning too far into the realm of something like cheesy halloween metal. Everything else is very well done and I think most people burning through the glut of new retro styled shooters will like this one.

Solid game. Granted, best if played with a custom soundtrack that suites the game. Played the first few levels and seemed to be just one song on loop the entire level, which got monotonous. Weapon wheel that controllers get should also be an option for mouse & keyboard controls.
