The game is currently stuck in limbo since Gearbox got sold to another company back in April, which has created issues between Hopoo and Gearbox regarding the rights of the game.

That said, this was over a year ago. I don't really think they're working on it as much as they'd like us to think. They sold the IP for a reason, so I don't understand why Hopoo sold the IP if they wanted to keep working on it. Gearbox can and probably will at any moment tell them to ♥♥♥♥ off and just take whatever work they've done, because Hopoo might as well be making a fan game. Were it not published by Gearbox, they'd be getting a C&D, but with Gearbox owning the IP in it's entirity, does Hopoo even have the authority to work on their games anymore? Gearbox already ballsed up the RoR2 DLC having broken all the visual shaders, made practically run-ending elites, and spoiled their big secret in the trailers. Allegedly, Hopoo made this, but so far RoRR just feels off. Runs are all over the place. Either I get a whopping 3 crates or 3-4 red items by the end of stage 1, the balancing is entirely off in both directions.
There's not really been much transparency in regards to where Hopoo ends and Gearbox begins in regards to the games now. It's entirely possible Gearbox have already taken over development of RoRR.
So, not only Gearbox has managed to do.. whatever is even happening with RoR2 but now we also have to deal with them ripping off the wings of Returns with little to no potential for the game to go anywhere.
Gearbox somehow managed to ruin a game that they didn't even make.
