I wouldn't personally go so far as quitting over it, but this is a question me and my buddies have. WE really like to screw around and take our time. we don't want to drag down serious players with our shenanigans.
I would run the dot net installer manually and see what errors come back from the MS installer. Note dot net installer issues tend to be caused by lower level OS issues.
This would generally point to either your local DNS having issues (because the DNS queries go through your tunnel) or your local firewall blocking the game from connecting (because the VPN bypasses your local firewall)
To address the 1st issue, try manually setting your DNS settings to OpenDNS or GoogleDNS
For the 2nd issue try disabling your local firewall as a test
I just wanted to say thank you for the help I think i did what you recommended but it didnt look like anything was downloaded also checked my OS and am windows 10 all updated. but ill try to figure it out. thank you again
