I think you like the Swiss, and are trying to get a Rise, out of us. Lol

I just finished the first battle of their campaign. They just stood their ground, and eventually crushed their opponents.

If you like playing with Swiss pikemen, you should try Pike and Shot campaigns by the same game developer.

I have it. I have every variant of this game system, except Sengoku Jidai. I will likely pick that one up, soon.

What strengths and weaknesses does the Swiss army have in this game?

In a defensive line, they cannot be broken by any army I have seen.

Used carefully, you can line them up, and just munch your way through the best armies of the day. VERY high moral, defense, unit count, and offense. The only weakness, if you can call it, is that they've not fast movers.

I love my Swisspike!

It depends on the date - there are several army variations.

In 1200 Swiss have a lot of halberdiers + some skirmishers and sometimes light artillery. As time progresses, they have less halberdiers and more pikemen. Later, they have pike keils.

Swiss infantry is generally of high quality and strong in the open terrain. Pike keils are very strong, in offense, in direct combat, they can defeat pretty much anything except for cavalry, in defense - also heavy cavalry. Pike keils also cannot be flanked from the side (only from the rear) and they can ignore enemy zone of control, unless the enemy stands directly in front of them. Their infantry is also faster, than infantry in other armies.

Their weakness is, that, except from that strong heavy infantry and small number of skirmisers and artillery, they don't have anything else. No heavy cavalry, no massed archers or crossbowmen, no lighter infantry capable of fighting in rough and difficult terrain. Also, because of their quality, their units are expensive, so if you pick Swiss, enemy pretty much always will have numerical superiority.

Nice review. I tend to over-value expensive units. I prefer smaller numbers of excellent troops.

GOG has Sengoku Jidai Gold Edition during sales for a great price, lower than STEAM.
Currently it's on sale on GOG for U$11

Thanks! I own quite a few GoG games.

I JUST pre-purchased Civ VII, so it's gonna have to wait a bit.

Has Sengoku Jidai similar battle mechanics compared to Pike & Shot Campaigns?

Yes, they are very similar. The main difference is in units and, as far as I remember, SJ added generals, which weren't present in P&S.
So how come the Swiss didn't conquer the world?

There were 500 million people in the world in 1500, with half a million Swiss. For every Swiss, there were one thousand other people.

Even with this, I am pretty sure they could have conquered most of Europe.
