While Broken roads had a few interesting concepts that make it stand out, it doesn't uses them to their full potential. The morality system which is split between utilitarian,machiavellian,nihilist and Humanist and while it is a refreshing break from the simple Good/evil binary it doesn't have a major effect on much in the game beyond dialogue options and it still falls into same pit that the good/evil binary does. I wanted to be a nihilist with a streak of humanism but there wasn't any room for that in the game. Further, the instances where morality would be involved were sparse. For something that is the character customization it should have an impact on every aspect of the game.

The combat is nothing to phone home about like every other aspect of the game its underdeveloped. It was a struggle at first but after a few level ups and half decent gear its a cake walk. Cover isn't even necessary. There's also a weapon crafting/mod system but all that amounts to is getting a bigger number. Any weapon you can craft you can rip out of the hands of a dead raider as well making it kinda pointless. It wouldn't have been hard to add unique weapons to the game either.

The world is empty threes a handful of settlements that have a few quests and the rest of the locations are just raider shooting galleries or nothing. There's this huge map and all this space and nothing there. One can only initiate combat through dialogue which is stupid.

The story, like every other part of the game is a mess. It starts of strong but falls off hard near the end. There were only two places that felt like they got a lot of attention and they both are forgotten by the endgame. The endgame city doesn't have anything to do in it but the final quest. Construction materials are found everywhere and I was thinking maybe I oughta collect this junk and rebuild the mc's home which was burnt down but that was forgotten about after the first act. The philosophical discussions with different characters in the were interesting but jarring and could have been implemented in a more seamless way instead of getting a philosophy 101 lesson.

The ending was a major let down. With the heavy influence of philosophy I excepted there to be an option to have some sort of debate with the bbeg about philosophy and potentially talk him down but there didn't seem to be an option to do that so I lit his ass on fire and shot him twice in the head. How fun. The tried and true slide show only went over a few actions I did. Also in spite of what you do the endgame city falls into ruin and nothing really changes so pretty much everything was pointless.
