Just wanted to let you all know what I'm working on since the first two updates have been released.

1. Explorer Mode

I've heard your concerns about how a few sections are very challenging, and not what was promised on the Steam page. This is totally fair, and I want to apologize - my creative drive went rogue.

However I want to make it up to you by adding an Explorer mode! This will remove the time pressure from chapter 3 and 8; it will add platforms and checkpoints in certain areas to make it a smoother experience as well.

I'm currently struggling with how to change the last chapter for obvious reasons, but I'll think of something!

2. Modding Support

After Explorer Mode is sorted out, I want to make tools to help folks mod the game!

The goal is to provide a bunch of prefabs in a template unity project, where you can make your own challenge levels, or even an entire level!

At the same time the community also seems to be working on modding in the more difficult way. Let's see who figures it out first!

There is more on the horizon, but I'll reveal as I go :)

Steam Deck Verified!

I also wanted to announce that Lorn's Lure has just been fully Steam Deck Verified!
Green checkmark and all.

Mac M2 Support

Recently some of you raised that Steam displays a warning that Lorn's Lure doesn't work on the latest Mac OSes. This is FALSE! It absolutely does work on it, but not sure why it's labelled that way, so I'll work with Steam support to figure it out.

though the premise of the game looked very promising, i was disappointed by a lot of this game
some parts feel unintuitive, and even though i like going to places that aren't supposed to feel welcoming, fighting against the terrains of the game was frustrating

the climbing feels under utilized, it goes from climbing to precision parkouring very quickly, and some chapters barely utilized the climbing at all (i admit this is a personal preference, the game aimed for a different thing from what i expected and its ok, the game is way more linear than it shows itself to be)

and the collectiables feel horrible to go through, they start out as nice to get fun challenges and go into horrible pixel perfect platforming that feels like youre being cheated, and sometimes you are because some of them are dingled infront of your face only for you to realize you were supposed to get an item to reach that crystal and you spent hours wasting your time in a single room

i still think the game is ok, you should try it, but by the end of it i had to force myself to finish it

Lorn's Lure presents itself as a slow paced exploration puzzle game with an emphasis on parkour and clever use of tools and abilities.
For the most part, the game is this. And up until about 80% of the game, it is as advertised.

And then, when you get to the final portion of the game, it forces you into an absurdly difficult and stressful level that forces you to learn new mechanics on the fly and forces you to speedrun through one of the singlemost difficult parkour challenges I have ever had to withstand.

I beat it, after well over a couple hundred deaths, only to then be presented with one of the singlemost confusing conclusions to a game I have ever encountered. All of the lore and story building up to the final level is practically thrown out the window and almost none of your questions get answered, and instead it feels like you suddenly get thrust into the conclusion of an entirely different game.

I really wanted to like this game, but the final stretch was so out of place and unwelcome, that I cannot recommend this game as it feels like a very unfriendly sucker punch for how much effort and time you put in getting there.

Adding dashing to this game was such a mistake.

Levels 1 to 4 are all great. You have a giant wall, two towers, a darkness-filled cave. Minimal upgrades keep the experience fresh. It's a game about climbing, calculating your way down, making sure you can make gaps and finally climbing back up the way you came, as impossible as it seems.

Halfway through level 5 you get the dash and it falls apart. I enjoyed the game less and less with every minute, and trudged my way through all the way to the end with the god-awful escape sequence and epic music. This game didn't need epic music, this game didn't need dashing and grappling hooks. It needed to stay the way it was in the early stages, because it was unique and interesting.

Two and a half years on my wishlist and I'm sorry to say I didn't enjoy Lorn's Lure. If the game stayed to its roots I would be praising it. If you only play levels 1-4 it's great. Everything afterward slowly saps your enjoyment.

Holding Select to restart went back WAY further than I was expecting

I feel like an idiot. I was falling for a really long time without anything to grab onto a few times in a row, so instead of waiting to die, I held down select thinking that was an instant, forced reset to the last level chunk... Turns out it restarts the whole chapter. RIP I know this function is useful for people doing time trials and speedruns and stuff, but I was totally blindsided. Wish it gave you the option to go back to where you left off with the forced reset as a failsafe. It's not like it gives...

I'm close to the end of Lorn's Lure and have been totally enamoured with its Blame! inspired world. I'm a huge fan of games set in these kinds of spaces and I'm wondering if I've missed any significant examples.
