They removed a core element of factory building, in order to make an escalator.. man. I had such good hopes, and you just rip it all away. I cant even connect my factory anymore, because you now have 'levels' instead of an open world.

Techtonica was a game I started playing in early access and very much enjoyed. I was very excited to see where the devs were taking the game as it approached its 1.0 release.

When 1.0 released, I excitedly reinstalled the game and dove head first. It was relatively the same game besides a few big changes. As time went on, the game started to drag.

The game is broken up into floors, which isn't a bad idea, just different from early access. However, once you hit floor 12 and on, the rooms are filled with sand that you need to drain and export. This is done using a machine that needs fuel that you need to import. At first the sand was annoying but bearable. As floors went on, the sand got worse. It become a massive chore rather than a challenge to conquer. I do believe the later floors needed some sort of challenge or reason for automation and importation, however I don't think the sand was the right solution for the job, it took hours even with large set ups.

The end of the game also requires you to do something similar, however it feels lazy and insulting the way it was implemented. You have to make these cubes that require a lot of resources and eternally feed them into a module on the final floor. Each time you meet the milestone it simply grows exponentially and asks you to do it again with the same cubes and eventually an even more difficult-to-make cube. After some research and redditing, it would have taken 277 hours with my already massive factory to make the cubes required for some of the last milestones that only unlock some dialog. The game also started to get slow on the floors that I had a lot of machinery even with my powerful GPU (Radeon 7900 XTX).

I did enjoy the game, for the most part, the story isn't too bad. It feels like developers were rushed at the end and needed a few more months to fully bake some of the ideas they had.
I would suggest factorio or satisfactory if you haven't played those before you look to this game.

Yeah they ruined it and scrapped most of what this open world game was to make a badly mediocre console ready version. No reason this had to happen.
