... any ideas?
oh and I run Avira... not Avast. But still, if I start the game the usual way, it says there is a potential threat and wants to reboot,.. which I did... also I reinstalled the game
I (dont know why) then tried to start it through the desktop icon again and it worked...
it works since then...

remove Avast from your computer and don't ever download it again.

ironically, some components of the program are impossible to remove without a special tool, of which you can get that tool from the devs of avast. .because i guess they know people might want to remove it.
Yeah I was considering unpinning this because literally who still uses it, but I guess I'll leave it up just in case.
nowadays, avast is borderline malware
This is the case for 'every' AV. If you have an AV that does not require an external tool to remove, you should be vary of using it (as it is not providing you sufficient protections).
