Unprofitable trucks.
Coming from the transportation industry it really annoys me at just how unprofitable the trucks are. I wouldn't even get out of bed for some of the prices this game throws at you...

What year is your game in?
There are some GRF's you can get, that make road vehicles more useful.

True. It does get a little better once you get access to the faster generation trucks (doing ~110 km/h or 70 mph) but it's completely out of balance compared to how much money planes or trains are making.

completly agreed that trucks have in the base game not much function.

Tend to disagree. Granted they are not much good as an income source by themselves, but using them as feeders for other transport, they are useful.
Also busses are basically needed if you want to grow a towns population.

It might be interesting if they introduced long-haul trucks. But trains, assuming they go the right direction, etc, are orders of magnitude more efficient over distance.

Yes they are, but basically essential for early town growth.

I found buses work best as carriers from neighborhoods to the train station. I set them to run from certain parts of a city to the train station and back, gave up on trying to do multi-stop bus routes as being unprofitable. Bus stops encourage town growth.

But while vehicles, busses are not trucks.

I was replying to your prior comment where you mentioned buses. Don't worry so much about making big profits from trucks, sometimes they're better to use than trains for short hauls or temporary ones.

Trucks in the base set are between five to ten times less efficient than trains and newer generations are _worse_ than those they replace. It has been like this since original TTD.
