Have a great day
Ok! Thank you for your reply.
It would be very nice with third person view.
But I think I will buy the game anyhow. It looks very good!
Glad to hear that! :) I hope you'll like it!
Hi there! :)
Unfortunately, I finally decided not to add a 3rd person mode. This is because having both 3rd and 1st person is too hard to implement correctly and I prefer people to experience the game in 1st person.
To counter this, I'll add a lot of option to control motion sickness like Field of View slider, no head-bobbing mode, no camera shaking. :)
Do you know what causes the motion sickness for your friend? Usually, there is a specific parameter that does this (like camera shaking).
Personally, I find while folks strive for First Person because they feel it creates more immersion, for me, it creates less immersion. At least in Third Person, my imagination can sort of fill in the blank a bit and creates more immersive and possessive (because I then own the character) play. Likewise, whereas our peripheral vision would at least pick up 180 degrees or more depending on eye shift for stuff trying to blind side us from the rear, in most game, they fail at this in first person (CoD and MF4 included).
With that said, I can only thank you for considering it and I do wish you the best in your game endeavors! Perhaps in your version 2.0, you might reconsider and add third person to grab some more audience to see how great the effort your put into your art, Derelicts. Be well!
Yeah, I know some people really prefer Third Person. It's been a tough choice to make but doing both First Person and Third Person is way harder and time-consuming than people think. Basically, you can do one of the two in a really good way but usually, the other one ends up clunky and not good (that's based on my experience with some games that tried to do both).
I'm thinking about this saying that we can do one thing really well but if we try to do too many things at once to please everyone, we end up satisfying no one in the end because we did them poorly.
So my choice was to go First Person all the way and make it smooth and good.
I'll definitely keep that in mind for the long run with Derelicts but I cannot promise the Third Person view as this game as always been thought as a First Person game.
I totally understand. I am a developer myself, but not necessarily in the game marketplace. Folks do not really understand completely the amount of net code required for multiplayer, optimizing the meshes to not load thousands of prefabbed objects in the same space at the same time, detail rendering, particles, animations, etc. Then there is what engine and language are being used, audio and sound fx scores, asset creators, data warehousing, etc. Personally, if I have a few bucks to spend, I will probably invest in your future game, because I absolutely love when a developer is active with its community. Good luck and I will be keeping my eye on it!
Nice to see a fellow developer here! :)
Yeah, it's indeed a lot of work and little things to think about! Especially like you mentioned, on the online/networking side of things which makes it even more complicated to handle.
But I'll keep that the 3rd Person view in mind for sure! Also, I haven't had the time to look into it yet but I really want the game to be able to be modded so maybe that a modder would manage to create a Third Person mode with it quite efficiently.
That's exactly why I think mods are awesome, it's because people who love a game but want to modifiy some aspects of it still can! It's a win-win for everyone.
Good luck to you too on your work and projects!
