The setting of this game is fun. While nothing exactly ground breaking, the world building is done well and the conversations between background NPCs bring life to the world. This is a game where you'll get a nice chuckle reading some of the item descriptions.

The writing of the main story could have some improvement, the twists are either overly foreshadowed (leading you to wish you could avoid something in the linear plot that you can see coming) while one in particular seems to come out of no where. But overall is a fun scifi plot.

If you're expecting this to be exactly like xcom combat you may be dissapointed. Engaging directly with all the enemies will have you quickly overwhelmed and draining resources. If you engage with the game's ambush mechanic though it adds a great puzzle element to the usual formula. Sneaking around the map picking off isolated enemies is a nice little challenge to make the main fight of each level more manageable.

The game is a decent length, you can likely complete all side quests and the main story in 15 to 20 hours depending how much you run around in circles. I think this is a pretty good length as this is around the time the combat starts to become repetitive and luckily the game ends before it actually gets boring.

Overally I'd be excited to see a sequel to this exploring the rest of the setting, though hopefully with a few interesting tweaks to the combat and a bit tightened up writing.

To put it simply, this is a game that appears to have been made great on the first draft but had no one to revise or give feedback to iron things out. Technically, I had one graphical glitch and a handful of reaccuring animation issues but other than that no problems. The overall art style is fantastic and the post-apoc setting is nicely realized for the most part (the droids you can find feel like a real missed step for potential worldbuilding).

However, so much just feels like it could've been fixed with some extra feedback and revision. The characters are close to being great but there's some real out-of-character moments and contradictory things that take you out of moments that were clearly designed to be impactful. The combat is extremely unfun for the first half of the game and even has some moments at the end that had me rolling my eyes. You can specialize your characters, changing that at any time (huge plus), but half the abilities are lackluster or weak and the other half are play-defining and must-takes (shock glove, tackle, and turret for example).

Overall, I can't recommend this but will keep an eye on what the devs make next as there's real potential.

First Project Mutant, now this, great games. Hope there's a sequel or something like it.
