Even when you complete the game without interacting with the cupboard where the projectionist is hiding (which you can easily do, as he doesn't give you any essential items etc.), Alan will still comment that he was the one hiding in the cupboard upon finding his corpse later on in the projection booth.

Feels a bit weird because if you skipped the encounter entirely, Alan wouldn't even know about someone hiding in the cupboard in the first place, thus not being able to mention it the way he does.
