An odd duck, but worth playing. Feels like a mix of "Cigarette Burns," "Lord of Illusions," and "In The Mouth of Madness," veering into Twin Peaks territory for part of the final act. Hits just the right horror notes and includes some excellent mid-1980s references (I bombed the music quiz despite loving the era, that's how deep the cuts were), but there are these...moments...where things are off just enough to shatter the verisimilitude. Like the writers are foreigners doing their best to write about America but possessing only a cursory knowledge of the nation and an imperfect grasp of the English language.

E.G.: A small town in Central California would not have been settled by Europeans in the 1700s, and it is impossible for a witch executed during the Salem Witch Trials (1690s) to have been from a small town in Central California. And having lived all over the wretched Gilded State, off-and-on, I have never once heard anyone refer to rural mountain towns being "in Sacramento." Sacramento is situated firmly in California's Central Valley, and any mountain communities are WELL outside the boundaries of Sacramento County, to say nothing of the city. And the town that is supposedly "in Sacramento" looks more like the sort of community you'd find outside Red Bluff or Redding, 2-3 hours north of Sacramento. Likewise, some of the characters look too modern, but not "current year" -- more like they're from the 1990s. The protagonist and his love(?)-interest especially.

No dealbreakers, and worth playing, but...just odd.

Absolutely amazing point&click horror game. Even better than their other game An American Haunting, which was also good. Nightmare Frames starts out as some comedy drama about a failed screenwriter, but then turns out to be a horror game about finding a mysterious lost film that makes the audience lose their minds. It reminded me a lot of "John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns". The atmosphere is top-notch; I wish more games could do horror so well, especially in a genre where you can't actually die.
