6 Ways We Are Improving Maximum Football From the Beta

The Maximum Football Open Beta was a HUGE success. As a top-50 played game during Next Fest, we had no shortage of players offering insightful feedback on how we can improve the game. Here’s a list of six areas we are currently working on which will improve the game in the lead up to Early Access thanks to your participation in the Beta.

Game Pace

Game pace was an issue we addressed with the week 2, real-world speed update. While the change was largely well-received, it was a very quick change without the correct engineering behind it to commit it to the game. We’re working on that now alongside other areas of the game which need to change in order to properly support real-world speed. These include tweaking the physics, making adjustments to how acceleration works in the game, and ensuring there is a difference in feel from running and sprinting.

Graphics, Animation and Audio

We received an abundance of positive feedback about the visuals and animations in the game, but we still have some work to do to bring this up to where we want it to be. This includes camera work, particle effects, weather, and dirt. All of these will add to the visual fidelity of the game.

We are also still working on our full suite of animations that we have captured for the game, as well as adding even more mocaped animations which we’re sure you’ll love in our Early Access.

Player Controls

The controls in Maximum Football are also being revised in the lead up to Early Access with a few goals in mind:

Create smoother controls
Make the gameplay feel more responsive to user inputs
Provide the user with better tutorials and practice modes to master the controls

AI Players and Play calling

Limiting the Beta to gameplay against the CPU meant that we were able to gather a bevy of feedback regarding the AI play calling and execution.

With this feedback, we’re improving the AI coaching’s situational awareness, especially as it relates to clock management at the end of a half and in late game situations.

Playbooks

Hand-in-hand with AI play calling, we are already on our way to improving the plays available to call as well as the actual 11-on-11 execution of the plays. We will also look into improving the in-game playart in both the play calling menu and the on-field view.

These updates will require certain considerations before we add custom playbooks and play creation to the game.

We want to make sure Maximum Football is user-friendly and easy to navigate. Many of you commented on the UI needing some improvements.

We are currently doing a full audit of the accessibility of our UI and looking for ways to improve it.

As you can see, we’ve got a football field of work ahead of us as we move towards Early Access. We can’t wait to show you how YOUR FEEDBACK has created real change in Maximum Football.

Hi Maximum Football Community

The last two weeks have been an exciting time for us as a team, and hopefully for you as fans of Maximum Football! We've already received such an immense amount of encouragement and most importantly actionable feedback for us to make Maximum Football the best simulation football experience in gaming.

As of 10 a.m. PDT, the Open Beta has officially come to a close, and we want to take the opportunity to relay a couple messages to the community that is making this game possible.

Thank You for Playing

Getting to this first publicly playable build for Maximum Football has been a journey and there's always a mix of excitement and nerves when you press that publish button. By taking the time to boot up Maximum Football and test it out, you've done us a great honor and helped bring some of that excitement into reality. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you very much for playing with the Roswell Greys and the Lubbock Firebirds, and for showing off your creativity in the game's create-a-team suite.

We NEED Your Feedback

The purpose of the Beta was to gather feedback from the community about what is good, what is bad, and what is on the right track to becoming good. We've already received a ton of great feedback via our survey, the Maximum Football Discord, Steam Discussions, and social media. Rest assured that if you've sent something along on these channels, it has been seen and compiled for the team to take a look at.

As we've said many times, we are building this game WITH you! And your feedback matters. If you have not had the chance to yet, here are some ways to pass along your thoughts on the Beta:

Most importantly, fill out the official Open Beta Survey[lp.constantcontactpages.com]. We are taking responses until Wednesday, June 26th.
Join the Maximum Football Discord Server[discord.gg]. There you will find other fans of the game, channels to discuss feedback, request features, and share your team creations. There will also be plenty more to do in the lead up to Early Access.

What Happens Next

The end of the Open Beta is not goodbye and it's not even see you later. We still have tons of information to reveal in the lead up to Steam Early Access later this year. But here's what you can expect over the next few months.

Continuing development for Early Access:

As you saw with the real-world speed update to the Open Beta, we are taking your feedback seriously. The immediate future for our development team entails reviewing your feedback, making changes to the game based on it, and getting our different modes and features ready for Early Access. During this time, we will also be working on implementing a lot of new animations and making tweaks to the physics and AI in the game.

Development Updates and Reveals

While we continue working on development of the game behind the scenes, the conversation with you will continue. We have plenty to talk about and showoff before launching into Early Access later this year, so be sure to follow us on social media and join our Discord server.

Early Access Launch

This is the moment we've ALL been waiting for: Putting Maximum Football in your hands! Early Access will feature a bevy of modes, including Play Now, Online H2H, Team Creator, Player Creator, Dynasty Mode and more. While we will launch a product we are proud of at this time, we will by no means be finished. There will be regular updates, added features, and added modes throughout Early Access and beyond. All of this will rely HEAVILY on your feedback to help.

What's up Maximum Football Community

The feedback that we have been receiving about the latest update to the Maximum Football Open Beta has been great! The new Real World Speed has made gameplay faster by making player speed match real college athletes, with 40-yard speeds between 4.2-5.7 seconds, depending on rating.

This Thursday, join Maximum Football Community Manager Luke Croft while he plays the updated Beta and talks about some of the feedback we've gotten from the community during this first hands-on test.

Critique and impressions

SO it's alright lol There is nothing in this that would make me not play or buy the game. But there are some thing I really didn't like. And not mad cause bad. 1st game I dropped over 50 without letting in 14. lol So difficulty could go up a bit. But firstly Running felt bad. I didn't like it. And that is one of those things that really effects how I feel about a football game. Like I just love running the ball. And it wasn't, not getting yards. But some of the dislike could be compounded by other things ...
