A surprisingly thrilling experience from the get go, the first thing you notice when playing through the story (after the very tense tone has been set by very well done voice acting) is that the music snaps you into focus. Throughout the entire game, I kept looking forward more to what the song in every next level was going to sound like, let alone wonder what the short but sweet story would bring next. Despite that, there is some humor sprinkled throughout that is simple and effective, and the enemy NPCs often will comment on your antics as you are killing them.

The actual mechanics, as far as a boomer/twitch shooter go are very simple and the levels are spaced out with really effective healing items (and enemies almost don't hurt you hard enough imo) so the skill ceiling doesn't feel so high compared to some other comparable games. You pick up weapons from enemies, throw them at them when they're empty, and kick people when they're down. Other than some simple parkour and unique items like bear traps you throw at people's heads, that's really about it. No reloading and you might as well just sprint for the entire game, and you very quickly don't get attached to the guns you wield.

The art direction is more low-poly and simplistic, but the lighting is rather well done and the effects effectively contrast the rather bright colors used across models and the environment. It's not remarkable or outstanding, but it's like if the Totally Accurate (Battle Sim/Battlegrounds) games were gritty and violent.

I guess if I had to nitpick, the geometry of the environment can be easy to get stuck on at times and I kind of wish the game was harder? The newer Cold Sweat mode is overall harder and very enjoyable, though if they had just a three-tier difficulty system (easy-medium-hard) that affected health regain, enemy damage, and how much score you got to your level rank then it would add to the replayability some. A very easy recommend for an afternoon timekiller with great voice acting and a stellar soundtrack from start to finish.

A very well-made responsive shooter about someone who wants to be left alone... I empathise heavily with that, if I'm being honest.

Hotline Miami did irreparable damage to the indie game scene. In the years since its release, dozens of games have been released that attempt to riff on HM's core ethos of fast movement, fast kills, fast deaths, and fast restarts. IAYB takes the speed of HM and mixes it with 1st-person shooting, giving the player a gamefeel similar to playing SUPERHOT without the slo-mo. While the protagonist of IAYB does not have any time-altering powers, he does have incredible speed, skilled parkour, and an extremely generous adjustment range which helps bullets snap onto enemies, and assists the player in grabbing weapons midair.

IAYB is a game I see myself coming back to again and again due to the fluidity of the controls and array of challenges to complete, from improving personal bests on previous levels, to working through the increasingly difficult challenge levels.

Tying the presentation together is a soundtrack mixing house, techno, and other edm styles into an aggressive score for killing to. The game also features a story which, while simple, delivers with good voice acting and quick pacing that doesn't overshadow the gameplay.

IAYB stands on the shoulders of giants which have created this gaming sub-genre and have carved out clear guidelines for tone, pacing, and design considerations. While it does not break new ground in this respect, the game manages to execute the design well in the FPS style and sharpens its strong points to a razor's edge.

Genuinely an amazing ride all the way through. Voice acting and dialogue are some of the most 'normal' sounding character interactions I've ever seen in a game. 10000% recommend

The high adrenaline atmosphere this game generates is incredible. Quickly navigating through short speedrun levels, wiping out enemy squads, while an incredible electronic soundtrack blasts in the background... this game really knows how to give you a good dopamine hit.

Amazing game with an interesting story even if its a bit basic, the story aint the point, the gameplay and movement are fantastic, just the right mix of speed and presison. if youre lookin for a fun but short game to play and not think much to, this is it. Absolute 10/10

Strange Scaffold is a developer to watch for me. I played the demo for this game just before I picked up El Paso, Elsewhere. These games aren't perfect, but the love the developers have for their work comes through in every way I can see. The music and Voice work is lovely. The cutscenes, despite being only VA and text, got me deeply invested in the characters involved. RJ Lake kills it at everything he does pretty consistently. If you like speed games, if you like action, if you like pumpin bangin beats to kill to, then pick up I Am Your Beast.

clip farming game except it's peak

I didn't know each level would be a minute to 30 second snippet. I thought it was a full game with full levels that would be at least 5 to 10 minutes each. Having mini levels that end every 30 seconds ruins the immersion. It is basically 26 mini missions that you can choose to replay to get a better time to get a better score and higher rank for each mission. After each mission there is a little dialog between the main character and his old boss. After the first missions ending dialog It is very predictable how the dialog is going to play out for the rest of the missions. And since each mission is super short it gets pretty annoying fast. The game is a little fun but for me this is something I may pick up in a few years when the game is $2. It does have a challenge mode to play instead of the story missions but I am not really into that.

I do recommend the game but only for under $5. The game is super light so it runs well at 4k 120fps. The graphics are nothing to write home about but those are clearly not the focus of the game. I am just not into speed running a bunch of 30 second mini missions with annoying predictable dialog after each one. I am giving the games a thumbs down for the price and predictability. Also because I didn't see it mentioned anywhere the game would be a bunch of 30 second missions. I was thinking this would be like the old game Thirteen. It is not other than the Cel Shading cartoon look.

Also when I viewed the results screen after the first mission I clicked on something that was supposed to give me more details on my run and then the game soft locked. I had to alt f4 to exit because it was unresponsive. I could move my mouse and the music was still playing but I could not click on anything and none of my keys did anything.
