It's been a number of months since we've had to put Jumplight Odyssey's development on pause, but as mentioned a couple weeks back, we just couldn’t hold back all that delicious, smooth music that's been serenading you all on your starflung adventures. So today, I'm proud to announce...

Other streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc) will follow in the coming weeks, as they have a longer lead time and we wanted this in your hands sooner rather than later.

Our long-time collaborator, composer Michael Allen, breathed life into the most stunning soundscapes for Princess Euphora's adventures, and they deserve to be celebrated in their own right. So, Michael headed back to the studio booth and remastered and extended the in-game tracks especially for this OST.

There are 27 tracks in total, including all your favourites and five new tracks that were only added to the game with the final update 0.3.1 - there are some really dreamy and moving pieces in there.

Furthermore, we’ve produced and uploaded them in two formats, both mp3 and 24bit 48k lossless WAVs.


Jumplight Odyssey’s “retro 1970’s futurist anime universe” gave us a chance to really flex our creative muscle, musically. We experimented with an entirely new genre of music - for us! - and had soooooo much fun on this creative journey. We know you can literally hear the joy we had making it come through the music. However the themes and the content in Jumplight Odyssey are often dark, melancholic, and actually very tragic - it's a sad story! We had to repeatedly remind ourselves to make it darker, make it sadder, take it down and that duality has created, what we believe, is a beautifully umami OST. It's happy, sad, salty, bitter, sour and sweet. I really believe you can hear those flavours in the tracks. We would sometimes jest that the OST is pulled directly out of a midnight Tokyo disco 1970’s jazz blues bar.

When we set out to create Jumplight Odyssey the game, we knew the music needed to be special and that it was going to carry a lot of emotional weight. The music was never an afterthought for us, we knew it was going to set the emotional stage for the events that would unfold as you commanded your crew and starship through a dangerous galaxy. The music therefore in Jumplight Odyssey is generally organised into track lists arranged by emotional weight, from full sadness with generous heavy despair, to hopeful optimism in the face of loss. As the player does well or suffers loss on their adventure, the game’s music blends between these tracks to make sure the mood of the game always matches the events unfolding on screen. In the same way when battle or danger appears, the music responds in kind; When the player sets the ship’s condition to Yellow Alert or otherwise, the music responds in kind, to match that change of intensity and tempo. We also use music in-game to add weight to loss and consequence, you’ll see that in our end game interstitials.

We hope when you listen to these tracks, your mind’s eye can imagine what might be happening to your crew and your starship at that very moment. I hope this OST can take you on many romantic intergalactic voyages, full of tragedy, happiness, love, loss and hopefulness.

Michael Allen is an Australian born composer for films and games. He made his start as a founding member and bass player in much loved Australian band Things of Stone and Wood whose song Happy Birthday Helen was a massive hit in 1993. They also had two top 10 albums, five top 50 hits and won an ARIA award. After the band finished touring and making records Michael took the opportunity to explore his passion for composing music for films and games, writing the scores for films Last Dance, Monster Pies and Bad Blood, as well as the award-winning game The Forgotten City, and LoG titles Armello and Solium Infernum.

Hey spacefarers,

Just swinging in here with an update for y’all.

Ripping the bandaid off; there continues to be no suitable investment opportunity available that would resurrect development of our beloved Jumplight Odyssey. Thus meaning development on JLO will remain on hold.

We’ve been scouting and talking with various investors for six months now, but as mentioned when we first found ourselves in this position, it is a tough time to raise funds for a videogame, and that remains the case - especially for a title on hiatus.

Whilst our studio (LoG) will be taking a much needed break for the next few months[leagueofgeeks.com], we will naturally continue conversations with interested investors. Should the title not find suitable investment in the next 6 months, we will commence the process of bringing the game out of Early Access. Though this is unlikely to be the fully realised v1.0 release we had originally planned, we will try to find some way to tuck the game in with our limited, remaining resources.

In some brighter news, as a little gesture or our appreciation to you all, we will be releasing the Jumplight Odyssey Original Game Soundtrack on Steam in its entirety for free. We expect it to go live in the next week or so (we’re just waiting on Steam approval). The OST will also be available on Apple Music, Spotify, etc.

The OST’s composer, our long time friend and collaborator, Michael Allen, has gone to the effort of expanding the soundtrack and producing a phenomenal listening experience for you all. It really is something special, and I’m so glad we get to share with you all the phenomenal work Michael has done on this project.

To our new players over the past six months! Hi! Thanks for diving in and exploring the stars with us. A number of folks asked why we continue to sell the game, and the reason is simple; even with development on hold there is still a lot of game in JLO and we want people to be able to experience the blood, sweat and tears our team poured into this incredibly promising title. So you can imagine how incredibly heartwarming it’s been to see all of you come along after development has already been placed on hold and hear of the grand adventures you are all having!

Jumplight Odyssey will be on sale in the Steam Summer Sale this year, so if you have enjoyed what the game currently has to offer, feel free to give your friends a heads up. :)

I know we said the last post was the last Patch -- and this is technically not a Patch, it's a Hotfix!

We really just wanted to leave JLO in the best possible place that we could. Some of JLO's wonderful Engineering and QA Team have decided to slide in a few fixes before their contracts come to a close. This Hotfix is intended to address solely small problems in performance and stability that arose from Patch 0.3.1.

From here, you might not hear a lot from us for a while...

Hi Spacefarers,

If you haven’t yet learned of the unfortunate news, we suggest you head over to our recent Development Update posted by Trent. And definitely check out our FAQ as well, which is pinned in Steam Discussions.

The TL:DR of it is that we’re in the unfortunate position of having to put Jumplight Odyssey’s development on pause indefinitely. Armello and Solium Infernum will continue unimpeded, but we simply don’t have the funding to continue with JLO, as much as we really want to.

So it’s with a truly heavy heart that we deliver your final (for now?) Jumplight Odyssey patch.

This patch is mostly bug fixes and any finishing adjustments the team could squeeze in before development paused. There are some really, really big wins in here -- wins that the community has fought hard to see (civilians can finally be assigned divisions, as just one example!). There are also other improvements that we hope will delight you as you enjoy JLO into the future!

This patch also has some parting gifts from JLO's development team. We wanted to cram way more in, as well as fix way more bugs, but we had limited runway and didn't want to risk JLO being any more unstable than it needed to be. So this patch is what we have delivered!

The best bit..

• While it’s not the grand ending we had planned, you can now COMPLETE the game by reaching the Forever Star! We won’t spoil what it looks like… But definitely hop in and try to find out!
  
• Civillians can now be assigned Divisions! We had originally intended to create a Buildable called a Training Room, but have settled on allowing you to bring them into your crew more simply. Hooray for useful civilians.
  
• We've added a new Biome called Neutron Star! It's got a highhh volume of Salvage Opportunities in it… because it's highly irradiated, crew should wear sunscreen on Away Missions. The original vision included other biomes in the future, but we found ourselves short on time.
  
• THREE NEW BUILDABLES! We’ve got a Mag-Ring Reactor, it’s a small scale passive power generator, not very efficient but useful to carry some base load power supply; A Decontamination Pod, specialised medical equipment used to remove Irradiated status from crew who get too much… radiation exposure; And a Biomass Recycler for you to utilise on your ship to recycle… umm… bodies.
  
• You can now play in Creative Mode! This mode allows resource-free building with no construction time, yeehaw! Perfect for the interior decorators among you all.
  
• There's a cool mechanic introduced, the ‘Emergency Reboot’ Procedure, that in dire circumstances, hotwires your Jumplight Core to inject Power into your energy Grid, just be aware that it wipes any and all Jumplight you may have calibrated. It's been introduced as part of Officer Advice
  
• We've added an option to have the Jumplight Odyssey development team's name and likeness as part of your crew.

One upside of this shitty situation we’ve found ourselves in is that we can’t get fired for writing simply unhinged patch notes so buckle up these are going to be the best ones yet...


We’ve added some interstitials (aka; in-game cutscenes), including:

• “Hope Lost” endgame interstitial
  
• “Princess Death” endgame interstitial
  
• “Jumplight Core Destroyed” endgame interstitial
  
• “Reaching the Forever Star” endgame interstitial

And, for you geeks out there, we’ve also updated the warp jump interstitial to include a Star Wars-esque wipe transition

• An important addition: crew now get nakey before jumping into the Medigel Tank.
  
• We’ve implemented “bad news” PiPs for “Failure” and “Left Behind”, as well as the Zutopan Boarding Party arrival.
  
• Officers will now choose each other as social targets when walking in hallways. Game respects game.
  
• We’ve introduced a new mechanic through Officer Advice! If a player hits 0 power and remains there for a full power cycle, the Officer will give the option for an “Emergency Power Reboot” at the cost of all Jumplight.
  
• There is now a CREATIVE MODE! You can toggle this on while in game. Creative Mode enables instant, no-cost building. God. This really is the future.
  
• Crew will no longer attempt to flee the deck when moving to equip a spacesuit/helmet after entering rooms with low or no O2.
  
• Beware! Engineering have advised us that the Large Observation Windows are now breakable again. They can also be repaired. They’ve even got some juicy new visual effects. Asteroids are scary again, folks.
  
• There is a NEW Chapter and we’ve updated the Custom Games layout. This has reduced starting content to give a more streamlined starting set up. A bigger challenge for bolder Captains.
  
• We’ve also introduced some minor re-balancing of resource systems and a MAJOR refactor of AI, to clean-up inconsistencies with On Duty / Off Duty states. Now, Crew will now only see to their Needs while Off Duty, never On Duty. This should result in the crew feeling more responsive to the player’s commands (Alert Levels, Orders etc.)
  
• Crew will no longer gain rest benefits from sitting in seats, but will use them to queue when waiting for “Needs Objects” – "Crew waiting to use objects in this room can sit here while they wait”.
  
• A Big Note: We’ve made some changes toward a balance shift that encourages Captains to be more intentional with looking after their crew. Previously, the game would “take care of itself”. Now, effective use of your crew will require intentional design and pre-planning from the Captain. The goal here is to encourage your crew to act more like people, not mindless robots doing their overlord’s bidding!
  
• From this update, only Off Duty crew replenish their Needs, unless they’re ordered to Go Off Duty or Seek Treatment in Medbay. (Note: Civilians are always Off Duty, the lucky bastards). ((Double Note: The Captain is always On Duty and so is exempt from this restriction, unless the ship is in Red/Magenta Alert)).
  
• We’ve added a timeout for the Captain’s Chair to give the Captain a proper cadence in visiting the Bridge and patrolling/visiting their Royal Chambers.
  
• We’ve added preconditions to Orders Processing + Power Generation to ensure that all standard checks apply (On Duty, the room has gravity, etc.)
  
• There’s now an extended delay time on forced sleep and forced fainting… You know, in case they’re working on life-saving procedures.
  
• A MASSIVE WIN! Civilians can now be transferred into Divisions! Now there’s no escaping Capitalism, baybee! (Worth noting that this will cause them to lose the +50% morale recovery buff they enjoy as civilians, decisions,… decisions,… decisions,… ) (Kindofsquishy note: normally I’d take the capitalism jab out of Chan’s patch notes. But…. y'know….)
  
• We’ve made some improvements to Zero G: including an adjusted spacesuit speed, and updated “locomotion animation”. (Come on, baby. Do the locomotion! Sorry. Had to.)
  
• A bug has been fixed where spacecraft destroyed on missions would create rubble in the hangar. Now I’m reading this back, it sounds like a conspiracy… Oh well!
  
• We’ve resolved an issue where the PiP for spacecraft being destroyed had not one, but two close buttons.
  
• Fixed a bug where “daydreaming” crew can become stuck walking in place. I personally consider this a feature, not a bug, and it should be renamed “ADHD”.
  
• Thank God, we’ve fixed an issue where Tea and Coffee crops would not visually grow. Considering Euphora runs entirely on caffeine, this is a bigger win than it seems.
  
• Fixed issue where Claustrophobic crew members can get stuck in the airlock while trying to vent themselves. The joke writes itself with this one. Grim.
  
• As a tribute and thanks from us to you for loving Jumplight Odyssey as much as we have, the entire development team’s name and likeness have been added into the game as crew members. Please protect Dewald at all costs.

• We’ve refactored the input system to properly support input device pairing
  
• Players are now able to use any device plugged in depending on the input scheme chosen in settings (Playing on Gamepad, allows people to pick up any controller that is plugged in)
  
• The above fix has solved the issue where a random controller would be the “active” controller when switching to gamepad.
  
• Steamdeck now supports external controllers

• We’ve run a balance pass on speed differences that appeared to be missing
  
• We’ve also tweaked some of the buffs associated with Spacecraft Classes
  
• We’ve introduced some new flavours of Salvage Opportunities, each with different yields and distribution
  
• New Biome! We’ve got a NEUTRON STAR! You’ll find a high volume of Salvage Opportunities here (as well as a risk of your crew returning back Irradiated but y’know swings and roundabouts)
  
• New Crew Status! Irradiated. This adversely affects health, hunger, thirst and rest.

• At times, Storage Rack XL would result in a build validation error when being placed in a corner. This is now resolved. You can now put baby Storage Rack XL in a corner.
  
• We made improvements to pathfinding issues with objects touching a disconnected pathfinding area. This, in particular, includes hauling from Metal Extractors in corners
  
• The whole room is now ~ illuminated ~ in red during Build Mode if you’ve got validation errors
  
• While editing a room in build mode with no tool active, hovering another room will cause it to highlight and clicking it will cause build mode to switch to editing that room instead
  
• After confirming a full-room deletion, the tool now exits the current room selection. So intuitive!
  
• Fixed an issue where wall lights on new rooms would float way too high. It’s really hard to not make a too high joke here
  
• Fixed issue where objects, both planned for deletion and under deconstruction, would render their footprints.
  
• We’ve fixed a problem where perimeter objects would unnecessarily be flagged as build validation errors when the object actually blocking access has its own interaction point.
  
• We resolved a small bug where attempting to build a room over fires would present build validation errors. Fires are no longer invulnerable.
  
• We polished the construction tarps so they should now render at the correct heights.
  
• Fixed issue where footprints would sometimes disappear when placing objects in build mode
  
• If a construction has consumed its resources and is deleted, we now place a deconstruction tent for the placeable (where previously we were simply deleting it)!
  
• We also now specify the costs balance for the change when we make the build task, so that (at the point of confirmation) the game can determine and apply a higher reimbursement, when deconstructing something that was never fully built!

• At times, Ham broke the matrix (and the game) with the “Find Ham” event. We’ve got him under control – somewhat.
  
• The Zutopan attack event sometimes broke the multiverse and didn’t save progress. Again, this shouldn’t happen anymore!
  
• Saves will now display your Play Time duration
  
• Saves will now display a snazzy screenshot of the current game state when saving
  
• There’s been a general visual pass on the Load Screen
  
• Fixed an issue where saving early in a run, then continuing the run from the main menu would result in mass fires, loss of hope and mass casualties.
  
• Fixed some instances which could result in Error Code 5 from occurring in save files
  
• We’ve fixed the issue where “serving since” day would not properly serialise, the service start date and the origin star is now properly recorded!
  
• Fixed issue where Turrets would visually stop working when saving and reloading while they are actively firing. They now should fire when ready!

• The Flight Deck “upgrade slots” have now been labelled as “Build Spacecraft” slots
  
• We fixed up some typos in the credits list

• Fixed issue where the Object Info UI can become stuck on screen when attempting to deconstruct it
  
• Fixed issue where a “No Available Spacecraft” notification was appearing for active missions
  
• Fixed issue where the Recall Mission button appears and disappears as you click the mission button
  
• Away Mission History is now ordered in newest to oldest order (satisfying brain ticking changes ftw)
  
• Also, as per the sad news, we’ve made some more sad changes:
  
• Removed “In Development” VIP, Chapter, and Ship buttons
  
• Removed the News Feed from the front end
  
• Removed Early Access reference in the star map

• The Medbay curtains have had a visual glow up
  
• We have introduced vomit! When in Despair, your crew will be more prone to 🤮
  
• Some of the Greenhouse foliage have also had a visual glow up
  
• New Observation Window Glass break VFX - they’re very very pretty.

There were so many plans for our game that we desperately wanted to show you, but with only so much cash left, we found ourselves unable to get them into the game in time.

We know many of you have been asking whether we’ll be releasing an OST for the game. And the answer to that is yes - but no solid ETA yet! The incredible soundtrack composer, Michael Allen, is in the process of mastering it. Once it is ready we’ll make sure everyone knows where to get it. The original plan was for it to launch with v1.0, but in light of everything it makes sense for us to get it out to you all sooner.

As a way to honor the hard work the developers have put into Jumplight Odyssey, and to show some of the things that we had anticipated releasing but haven’t been able to, we’re planning to host our last Town Hall on our Discord this Sunday at 1pm PST.

You’ll get to hang out with Chan (Community Manager), as well as all three of the Founders (Trent, Ty and Blake – very rare for all three to come together!) and some of the development team as we review the Miro Board, take any burning questions from the community and say our goodbyes to Jumplight Odyssey. It’ll be a little sad, but a worthy send off, we hope.

It has been an honor to be among you folks, and to be your voice in the ear of the development team. I hope you feel proud of all the contributions that you've made. Even if Jumplight Odyssey never sees its development finished, we feel it's one hell of a game - and we couldn’t have gotten it here without you.

Hey, Spacefarers.

Trent here, LoG Co-founder & Studio Director.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a fun or happy announcement. We are in the devastating position of having to pause development of Jumplight Odyssey indefinitely.

Though our commitment to our beloved starship adventure sim is unwavering, rapidly rising operation costs, a worsening AUD/USD exchange rate, poor Early Access sales, and the unprecedented withdrawal of funding opportunities across the industry, have placed us in a position where, as it currently stands, we are unable to sustain the cost of operations through to the release of v1.0, which was planned for Q2 of 2024.

As a result, we have also had to go through the traumatic process of saying goodbye to many of our closest friends and colleagues at League of Geeks. This has impacted the entire Jumplight Odyssey team, and folks from our publishing and operations teams.

This decision will not impact the launch of Solium Infernum on February 14, nor will it affect the existing support we offer our Armello players.

The Jumplight Odyssey team is working hard on one more patch for you all before we have to stop development. Our goal with this coming update (v0.3.1) is to make Jumplight Odyssey feel as complete as we possibly can in the incredibly short time we have left on the project - including bringing in a couple things we were holding back for v1.0.

For us, Jumplight Odyssey has always been a story about hope, resilience, teamwork, and persevering against all odds. So the first thing we want to say is that we are so, so, immeasurably sorry that we haven’t been able to find a way forward.

The game is as good as it is right now because of your unwavering support, your feedback, your bug reports and your input. This was never the future that we envisioned – our hearts are truly, completely broken in that we find ourselves unable to finish what we started.

Ty, Blake and myself, the directors of LoG, cannot apologise enough to the community and our wonderful team for the fact we’re here. Regardless of current market conditions, rising costs, or whatever bogeyman we want to point to, as heads of the studio, we are ultimately accountable for this situation. It’s always a possibility in game dev, but this is not a message we ever expected to write, and we take full responsibility for that.

You’re entitled to be frustrated, sad, devastated and everything in between. I am too. All of those things. We all are at League of Geeks. I hope you can understand that this was an impossible situation and a heartbreaking decision to have to make.

Your frustrations are also totally valid – the only thing I ask is that you direct them at myself and not the team, they’ve been through more than enough already.

We don’t want this to be the end of Jumplight Odyssey. If investment in the project becomes a reality, and the conditions exist where it is financially possible for us to boot this game back up, we absolutely will. The grim reality however, is that at least for right now, it’s a very scary time (economically) for indie developers of our size.

Moving forward, we want to ensure that the game does something to give back to our fantastic team who worked so hard on it.

So for the next twelve months or until development is resumed, whichever comes first, half of our profit from every copy sold will be distributed to our team (including those whose employment was impacted).

LoG was literally founded on the belief that those who contribute to our projects should share in the spoils of our success, so it's important to us that we continue to live that value.

It’s at least some way we can honour our friends and colleagues who have given so much to this game, and for new players to support the folks who made it special in the first place.

Hi Spacefarers,

A short and sweet hotfix for you all today - we noticed some reports of stability issues, as well as a pesky bug that we could swat at quickly.

• We made a few tweaks to the back end to improve some stability issues a minority of players were seeing as a result of the most recent patch.
  
• Fixed an issue related to the "Overdrawing resources” pop up, that was occasionally causing the game to get stuck during a deck transition.

A new dispatch is coming in from the bridge - Patch 0.3.0! We hope you’ll agree that the content in here goes a long way towards addressing some more of those key pain points we’ve been chipping away at.

Let’s get right down into it!

We’ve added a DISMISS BUTTON FOR PIPs!
You now will no longer be dragged around the ship by your crew's notifications!

We have brand new buildables! We’ve now got a COMPOSTER and an updated Rally Point!


We’ve made some massive additions to the overhead UI for objects!
They’ll now display various errors, resource processing, tech dependencies, and more pieces of useful information!

And, the biggest improvement of all… You might remember the mockup of the new Resource Panel that we’ve been working on? Well, it’s coming to you – hot off the press – in 0.3.0! The Starship Inventory Panel is intended to give the Captain (that’s you!) greater amounts of clarity and insight on trends happening aboard your ship.

We’re really very proud of this one, and the team has worked incredibly hard to bring the Starship Inventory to fruition. Our focus is to give the Captain more tools to make educated decisions, and this is a step in the right direction.

Here’s the actual patch notes for the Starship Inventory:

• Inventory is accessible through the View/Select button on gamepad, and a new clickable button next to the resource bar at the top of the screen. This screen provides a breakdown of ship wide information:
  
• Shows a breakdown of all the ship inventories including counts of acquired and lost resources
  
• Provides descriptions of all resources and their current trends (similar to the tooltips for KBM in the resource bar in the main HUD)
  
• Time scale settings to toggle between different cadences

Starship Utilities

• Similarly to the inventory breakdown, this provides an overview of all the pooled resources including water, power and jumplight
  
• Same mechanics and breakdowns as aforementioned

Crew Status

• This screen provides a holistic overview of all the crew on the ship with their overall needs to get a general idea of the health of the crew.
  
• A breakdown of crew statuses, their divisions as well as gain and loss of crew

• We’ve improved the operations coordinator stand interaction animation
  
• A delightful visual improvement: the crew will now come and “spray and wipe” the spacecraft occasionally. Keep it clean, folks.
  
• You’ll be able to easily spot your fighter fans among your crew now – when they go to admire spacecraft, they’ll have an adorable VFX heart trigger!
  
• We’ve done a pass on visual upgrades for the engine bay, as well as interior lightmap fixes for the Catalina’s bulkheads
  
• Yet another delightful improvement: the crew can now be “startled” and fall out of their bunks if they’re disturbed by other crew, or if you enter red alert!
  
• We’ve got new bubble tube VFX, as well as new animating ribbons on the O2 Scrubber
  
• We’ve also introduced new transitions for on/off/no power to the O2 Scrubber!
  
• There’s been some spit-and-polish (hopefully more polish than spit) done on crew animations! They will interact better with the Soda Machines now, and I’m told that they should sweat in a more polished way.
  
• More polishing for the 2x2 Greenhouse planter box, as well as the coffee and tea planters
  
• Engineering reported a problem on the turbine for Reactors to properly turn on and off, this is now fixed!
  
• We’ve done some additional polishing on the firing capacitor too!
  
• Someone thought it was funny to slightly offset the Officer Control Stations. We’ve now re-centered them. I’m not pointing any fingers here, but where’s Ham?
  
• At times, the space background for the asteroid and boarding pod intro would be missing. The void consumes us all in the end, but we’ve fixed it for now.
  
• Also at times, the asteroid threat PiP sequences would play frozen or missing PiPs. Crew will now panic and yell an appropriate amount in their PiP.
  
• Zutopans in their arrival PiP are now “conniving”. (I can fix him).
  
• There’s been an update to the tutorial PiPs! They’ll now use a range of different typing and stern PiPs for added variety.
  
• Yet. More. Polish. The console sit, the interact + depart animations, as well as the “Grin” and “Confident” crew animations have all been improved!
  
• We fixed a bug to do with camera collision in some areas of the ship
  
• We’ve also refactored the system slightly to simplify the logic for turning on/off camera collider collections
  
• Further polish on the Rally Point object (it now comes with VFX and lighting!)
  
• And, perhaps the most relevant of all, the Hangar Bay now has animating runway lights.

Titling these updates… Grim but very fun:

• There is now a new crying-in-place behaviour for sad crew members (mood)
  
• We’ve increased how often the hunger and exhausted animations appear (also a mood)
  
• Crew will now faint as a consequence of dehydration (huge mood)
  
• Crew become sad when they’re too isolated (biggest mood of all)
  
• New Trait alert! “Disturbed”. When affected, the crew will seek others to startle them and scare them. Mwahahaha.

In other gameplay news that’s not grim but is still fun!

• New idle behaviour for the crew to stand around expressing their current mood
  
• We’ve made some improvements and crew should become stuck less often
  
• Crew will now queue for showers! Eliminate the stink!
  
• Unfortunately, Marines will no longer phase through walls to fight invaders.
  
• Input and output collection points for objects have some more randomization so crew won’t clump in the same spots
  
• Fixed an issue where resource cubes are still visible after the resources have been removed from an objects inputs

• The Room State Analysis tool now supports room state visualisation of power, water AND oxygen. Huge win.
  
• Airlocks are no longer rendered in the Room State Analysis Tool.
  
• Analysis rendering has been improved and now will show mesh rendering (for strangely shaped rooms), instead of cubed areas around rooms
  
• There was a small bug where actioning a PiP for Crew in Despair while in Build Mode would freeze the game
  
• We’ve done a massive overhaul of the overhead UI for objects. They’ll now display various errors, resource processing, tech dependencies, etc. Another HUGE win!
  
• We resolved an issue where error icons of invalid buildable placements only displayed after deselecting and reselecting the room they are placed in
  
• We also resolved an issue where icons for ‘objects are blocking access to interactions or doors’ and ‘rooms require access to a turbo lift’ appeared the wrong way
  
• The dismiss button for PiPs has had a visual pass for clarity
  
• We improved the vertical layout of the UI elements for the Object Panel

• At times, when folks would load into their save, the crew would become stuck. We’ve eliminated this problem, but if it occurs for you again – please do let us know!
  
• We fixed an issue where pressing “continue game” could have no effect if the latest save was missing. Players will now receive an error message!
  
• Deleting a save could, at times, cause the UI to not properly refocus the save UI. This is all fixed!
  
• We’ve added more measures to detect a corrupt save and profile files when JLO boots up to avoid any more “infinite loading” states occurring. Note: the first load for players with this issue might be a little longer!
  
• We’ve done some work to add a relevant popup error message to notify you of the issue.
  
• We also now backup problematic files, so that you can fling them to us to further investigate
  
• If a corrupt profile is detected, a new one will be generated. A caveat here is that players can experience some settings getting reset, such as audio, language, graphics, as well as First Time User Experience settings such as privacy policy checks, and tutorial warnings.

• Fix string discrepancy for the “Hangar Bay” vs “Flight Deck”
  
• Updated text on the Medigel Tank to reference frostbite

Hello all Captains!

We’re back at it again, bringing you even more updates to Jumplight Odyssey!

Before we get into the update, we did just want to take the time to recognise that the community – across lotsa’ platforms – have given us so much great feedback on every single update we’ve brought to you! Yet again, thank you so much! We have lots of areas that we do plan to continue working on, but all of which will require building systems from the ground up (rather than tinkering with existing ones), or work that is so complex it requires some deep thinking from the team to unpick the problem and address it properly.

So the TLDR is: we hear you! We want to improve the flow of a bunch of UX and UI related things too - we just want to ensure we give it the time and love it deserves. We appreciate your understanding and patience, we really do feel like we have one of the best communities out there.

We also plan to release what we’ve called Dev Diaries! They’re a little different from our previous Developer Logs because they’re more impersonal, and are meant to give some more insight into the technical underbelly and challenges faced in JLO’s development! So if you have any questions that might fit a Dev Diary, feel free to fling them to our Community Managers (Chan, Sarah, Mig and Squishy).

Anyway! Onward to the patch!

• Players are now able to dismiss Picture-in-Picture popups without having to action them (e.g. dismiss “View Spacecraft“ after an away mission returns instead of being forced to view it). We know this was a big pain point for folks, so we’re glad to have knocked this one on the head.
  
• We’ve improved the timing/duration of some Picture-in-Picture popups, as well as made an effort to reduce the repetitiveness of some.
  
• Spacesuits have gotten a brand new look, including new Officer-specific spacesuits! Folks wearing spacesuits are now able to walk in zero-g and perform tasks in hazardous areas (low oxygen, etc)! Plus, they come with an adorable set of mag boots!

Here's a little treat! This is some early-stage concept art of what we were thinking for the spacesuits upon initial design.

This is a hit list of bugs that we’d love more information on…

• Endless Loading Screen Bug. This bug occurs when you’re attempting to load into JLO but become stuck on a permanent loading screen. This problem is particularly elusive and hard to replicate – please reach out to our CMs if you get this one!
  
• Machines Being Stuck Bug. We’ve seen a few reports of people struggling with some machines in JLO not producing correctly or enough – we’d love to investigate specific instances of this! If you have this bug please report it!
  
• Priority Problems. If you’re experiencing any problems with the priority system, please do let us know! We’ve seen a fair few reports of this but would love specific examples and delicious logs.

• Spacesuits have gotten a brand new look, including new Officer-specific spacesuits! Folks wearing spacesuits are now able to walk in zero-g and perform tasks in hazardous areas (low oxygen, etc)! Plus, they come with an adorable set of mag boots!!

• Over Halloween, we’ve heard reports of Hot Tubs turning off when they’re supposed to be on, and on when they’re supposed to be off. This won’t happen any more. On an unrelated note: the Bridge wants to reiterate that ghosts are NOT real.
  
• At times, Shuttles and Extractor VFX were visible between decks - this has since been fixed!
  
• In a similar vein to the Indestructible Turbo Dishwasher, our Basic Kitchen became the Invisible Basic Kitchen. They’re now visible. The Bridge wants to reiterate, again unrelated, that ghosts are NOT real.
  
• At times, Jumplight Regulators appeared visually operational but had – in fact – been destroyed. This has been fixed.
  
• Asteroids have had a glow up. They have brand new trails, particle systems, lingering debris and cronchy impact effects when hitting your ship. Get smacked in style.
  
• Sometimes, VFX would not be triggered when the game was being fast forwarded, and this meant that damage was not dealt by your Marines. Now this is not the case!
  
• The Fire VFX incorrectly rendered at times, and now will render correctly!
  
• Fixed issue where VFX on the Metal Extractor would apply an outline effect when the cursor is hovered over the main object
  
• Some crew reported to the Medbay because they were, and I quote, not “panicking enough when getting sucked out of airlocks”. They now will panic an adequate amount when getting sucked out of airlocks.

• Supply sometimes would fail to completely haul a delivery when the destination becomes unreachable – these crew now longer get stuck mid-haul.
  
• Despite our teleportation ban, crew were teleporting to the card and chess tables. This has since been fixed! Please report any more teleportation to the Bridge!
  
• The Bridge has made improvements in how frequently the net-change in oxygen is calculated: more accurate information and data for the Captain to use!
  
• There was a problem where some crew would become stuck when they were assigned to a shuttle. They would dissociate and stare into space (mood). They won’t do it any more (we probably still will).
  
• We fixed a small issue where if a Scientist was interrupted on the Medical Beds or MediGel Tank, a second Scientist would begin to use it and incur a secondary cost to complete the task.

• There was an issue where Plastic Fabricators were storing less resources than they intended – we’ve corrected this!
  
• There was a problem with prioritisation where Medical beds would take priority over MediGel Tanks and Counselling Booths, meaning their interactions continually were interrupted. This will no longer happen!
  
• We conducted a balancing pass at the Counselling Booth so crew with low morale and/or in Despair will take fewer sessions to fully recover.
  
• We also resolved a problem where the Fuel Burning Reactors would never reach their full capacity of 16.
  
• Fixed issue where crew would stop hauling to the Composite Assembler before it reached its max capacity of 8 plastic and 8 metals

• Chromatic Aberration can now be disabled in the Display Settings screen!
  
• Fixed issue where popups would flicker default strings on buttons when they are dismissed.
  
• We’ve improved the timing/duration of some Picture-in-Picture(PiP) popups, as well as reducing the repetitiveness of some.
  
• We improved the object hover logic for upgrade slots in Management Mode to display the footprint and bounding box more clearly.
  
• The Flight deck “Upgrades” are now referred to correctly as “Spacecraft”!
  
• Players are now able to dismiss Picture-in-Picture popups without having to action them (e.g. dismiss “View Spacecraft“ after an away mission returns instead of being forced to view it). Yay!

• Updated the object description and note text for the radar operator station (radar tracking station)
  
• Adjusted credits list

We come bearing even more good news...

If you haven’t seen our last Patch (it’s so chonky, you should definitely check it out!), we've been hard at work behind the scenes on Jumplight Odyssey! Our recent Patch, v.0.2.0, had over 237 fixes!

And.. Somehow.. We’re back with even more improvements ~

On behalf of the Bridge, welcome to Patch v0.2.1!

Our big focus for v0.2.1 is to continue iterating on Game Stability, Save/Load Improvements and Quality of Life Fixes (Crew AI falls in here!).

We’ve seen a HUGE amount of feedback over the course of EA, but also specifically feedback from our last Patch. The biggest areas for improvement being the Crew AI and priority systems still needing some love. We’re definitely focused on some additional work here that will address these areas that will land in the next patch (at the risk of repeating ourselves, this kind of work can often take a long time to get to the bottom of!)

It is definitely worth noting that bugs are sometimes quite deceptive in nature. An example is that we had a bug a little while ago that paraded itself as a problem with the Crew AI, but it turns out that it was a problem with the Buildables themselves! This is why we’re always really grateful to receive in-game bug reports, as well as logs and save files, because it helps us paint that holistic picture and diagnose the true cause of problems in JLO.

So.. Keep submitting the bugs that you see – every little bit counts!

• We've started to make some changes to UI/UX - right now we're starting small but you'll see these every patch from now on
  
• A maximum of 10 save slots per run
  5 Slots are assigned to auto saves, and 5 are assigned to manual saves.
  Reaching maximum saves gives the option to overwrite the oldest, or manage your saves.
  
• Medigel Tanks will now heal and remove Burn and Frostbite effects from the crew!
  
• Crew transfer actions are now displayed at the top of the management tab, above orders.
  
• Away mission crew members now equip flight suits.

Anyway, without further ado… Here are the Big Notes!

• It turns out that the Zutopans in Euphora’s Chapter were a little too greased up… We’ve brought the Zutopan chase in the Euphora Chapter back in line with the speed of Classic games. This gives players a little more time at the start to escape from the evil clutches of Admiral Voltan.
  
• Medigel Tanks will now heal and remove Burn and Frostbite effects from the crew!
  
• Speed penalty and boosts for crops from Growlights have been adjusted.
  
• Some folks would immediately get a critical atmosphere warning on loading into a Euphora Chapter… This is not the case anymore.

• Crew will now equip their personal protective equipment if needed when attempting to revive other crew. Workplace Health & Safety gets a win here. The Medibay is delighted to hear it.
  
• Crew will no longer attempt to revive crew who are unreachable.
  
• Crew will no longer attempt to take their meals to an unreachable table and destroy it out of frustration.
  
• When a crew member is working on the Jumplight Calculator and gets interrupted, their progress will be saved to resume from the same point when they re-work the task.

• STEAMDECK now shows valid graphic options (shadows, bloom, FPS, etc), excluding the following options:
  Fullscreen mode
  Resolution
  Resolution Scale
  Upscaling Mode
  Save/Load
  
• Character and placeable orders are now saved, including but not limited to:
  
• Go Off Duty, Seek Treatment Combat targeting, etc.
  
• Prioritized Hauling, Prioritized Repair, etc.
  
• Fixed issue where closing the pause menu via ESC on Keyboard, or the Menu button on gamepad would revert some settings.
  
• Improved the save mechanism to alleviate issues of partial saves, where the game may be forced to quit or crashed during a save process.

• Fixed issue where Medical Database objects were displaying capacity for metal and material storage.
  
• Fixed issue where the haul priority order for objects were not being shown until their containing room has been constructed.
  
• Attempting to access the feedback form via Gamepad now warns users that they need to use their keyboard, and gives the option to back out before needing to change to keyboard.
  
• New “Continue Game” button has been added to the main menu to continue your last run.
  
• A maximum of 10 save slots per run

• Reaching maximum saves gives the option to overwrite the oldest, or manage your saves.
  
• Run save slots are now collapsed, and can be expanded to view the saves within.

• A prompt will be displayed to confirm saving prior to quitting, or just quitting.
  
• Crew transfer actions are now displayed at the top of the management tab, above orders.
  
• Improved the visual feedback on the storage container ‘storage options’.
  
• Options are now all enabled by default giving the option to disable all for the player.
  
• Fixed popup modals issue where they would occasionally not be able to be dismissed using the universal cancel or back input.
  
• Fixed issue where the progress bar for some resource processors would not match up with the actual timing of processing resources.
  
• The feedback form is now accessible from within the character picker screen and within the Star Map screen.
  
• The Pause Menu is now accessible from within the Star Map screen.

Visuals

• Fixes issues around lighting discrepancies, floors are properly lit when in build mode, walls now get correctly lit from alert levels.
  
• Ceiling lights actually turn off now when power is turned off.
  
• Under construction walls now bleed light into unbuilt space, correctly updating when tarps are shown/hidden.
  
• Build mode lighting colours are more legible now.
  
• Ham now gets into the hot tub more gracefully. No, I will not elaborate on this.
  
• Polished Ham animations for Walk, Idle, Idle ZeroG, Run ZeroG, Mess Table, Soda Machine, and reworked the pig lie down animation. He is a handsome boy and deserves handsome animations!
  
• Fixed up some minor crew looping animations in PiPs where it would pop starting a new loop.
  
• Princess Euphora no longer puts on gloves when changing into her underwear. She’s weird, but she’s our Captain, okay?
  
• Fixed issue where space suits have four hands. If you find yourself still with four hands, please report to MediBay.
  
• Away mission crew members now equip flight suits.
  
• Fixed issue where Hanger Claw frames disappear in build mode & reappears when the room is selected. This should now properly display in all contexts.
  
• Fix issue where officers were incorrectly sitting at their consoles on the bridge.
