Does anybody else hate the Ark?
Since the player base is at an all time low and there are hardly any posts any more here is one. I personally hate the Ark. It isn't required to go to the Bimini region so I have parked it at my base. The mast is in my friggin way. I can't see where I am going. Hate it. Can't climb up on any part of the ship to map. You get the Ark toward the end of the game. Most players have already built a base somewhere. No use for a mobile base. And you have to deconstruct everything to move it to the Ark and lose some resources in the process. WTF?

Don't even get me started on the lack of options to get on the Ark. If you are in the water, sometimes you can go up the ladders by the winch, other times not. If you are on land and want to get on the Ark, ??? Go ahead and get wet and catch a runny nose so you can swim to the ladder on the side of the Ark. I know about the ramp but that doesn't work unless you are at a dock.

I like it.
I pulled all my main base on the starter island apart and rebuilt in the Ark. It's pretty handy but since fast travel is already easy enough it's not that huge a deal. I didn't find any the material loss to be much in the move. So little that until I was told there was a loss I never even fully appreciated it at all. Can't be much.

You're right in that you can't map from it but you also have nothing in your base that you can climb and map from really? I mean you could do it once but then what? So it's not an advantage over a land base but it's not a real loss either.

I didn't like boarding the ark either. Fiddly process and I fell off at the back with the winch a lot.

It's a big boat so needing a dock for the ramp seems fair. I just wanted a second rope ladder on the other side.

At first I thought it was tiny inside and ugly with those walls that were a struggle to find attachment points. Then I realised I could build walls and a top floor and it was so much better.

I wanted the log carrier outside linked to the internal crafting benches but once I found the extra floor thing I had plenty of room for 2 inside so it became a non issue. Just felt like a wasted opportunity to me.

I did all that and once I completed the story I started to build a big base on Bimini but it's fair if you have the Ark set up you don't need a base. Conversely I feel it's fair to make your claim too. That if you have a good base you don't need the ARK.

I guess ultimately it just gives you a choice. 'Here are the tools, go and do what you want'. I don't mind that choice at all.
It's good for a portable base with unlimited storage but that's about it. It's slow and sight is obscured and not even a crows nest. For straight up sailing speed and maneuvering for exploring or getting around in water areas the Schooner is far superior and it has a crows nest for mapping. But the Ark does look cool sitting in my harbor. Fortunately I had spent many hours building two large well developed bases on Hope and Copper Islands before the Ark was added to the game so I have the best of both worlds.
I think of the ark as an option for people who prefer to have a single mobile base rather than a single central or several scattered around. I prefer having a single central and I haven't built anything in the ark. I don't see a use for it now that I've winched everything up. The schooner is a better ship in every way except for the capability to build a base in it, but it's less of a convenience than it's really made out to be.

Hello 'emitfudd' ,

Personal opinion, compared to other games that have a Sailing mechanic, Survival: Fountain of Youth is the best!

Or the best so far..?

The 'Living Space' onboard the Ark was a Developer stroke-of-genius — That mechanic alone solves so many problems that other sailing games have never solved!

Is it perfect ... absolutely not — I view it as another hurriedly-truncated Open World Sandbox UNFINISHED feature.

Good Luck & Regards

Well it's not a very difficult game so most players don't need extensive help from the forums.

Most of the discussion took place during the early access period. The final release brought some trolling critics (see above^) and attention-seekers to the boards, so the veterans are steering clear.

Hello 'Cougarific' ,

And yet just 4.3% of Players have actually finished the game — Most Players seem to have quit the game entirely, after just a few hours of game-play, and that's not good❗

Fair comment and I guess factually correct. All I would ask is how this completion rate compares to every other game out there? I would not be surprised if those numbers are fairly consistent with the majority of games and especially this genre of game. I have played many of them and this is one of the very, very few I made it to the end of.

For some EA games I only invest a few hours in them and then decide that yeah, I like it and I will look forward to release and just park it up. Maybe others did too and have not realised it's finished yet and gotten around to playing it fully?

I can say I thoroughly disliked some game mechanics (scorpions for one) and it took some real determination to finish when I just wanted to rage quit over some of the less than fun aspects. Maybe others just couldn't be bothered with those things I hated too? It can be pretty annoying at times.
