I've refrained from giving an honest review because it would be redundant, and ultimately I still find the game fun. That was until I found out about five ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minutes ago that I was scammed out of 20 extra dollars I didn't know I would be losing.

Y'see, before the Khaos Reigns announcement, there was a premium edition that cost 110 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ US clams. I got it because I'm a huge fan of the series, it's practically my childhood. In this premium edition, there was the 70 dollar base game, the previously 40 dollar Kombat Pack, 1250 Dragon Krystals which wouldn't be useable to get more than one skin for a few seasons, and the Jean Claude Van Damme (JCVD) skin for Johnny Cage.

But now, they're selling the Khaos Reigns "Kollection", which has all of that (besides JCVD) and Khaos Reigns...for only 90.

Netherrealm, for the love of god, get your ♥♥♥♥ together. Either make Premium Edition owners elligable for Khaos Reigns for free, give me a partial refund, or give me a total refund. This is complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and you know it. Fix it.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat since I was around 5 or 6, starting off with my dad playing MK4 on an old, beat-up PlayStation. I have been a massive fan ever since. But this game sucks. It really, really sucks. I hate to be that guy who whines about everything, but it has some issues, like the Kameo system and the fact that the extremely overpriced DLC is blatantly overpowered upon release to make people want to buy it.

I consider myself a pretty average player, and I usually have no trouble beating people. But when I lose a matchup simply because they bought a Kameo that increases their damage and has almost unblockable setups—such as the Omni-Man Kung Lao combo or the Scorpion Ferra setup—it just makes me want to throw my head through a brick wall. The addition of Kameos has completely removed the appeal of a 2v2 game mode and lessened my enthusiasm for the MK franchise as a whole. To put it like this: imagine a boxer like Mike Tyson could get The Undertaker to come in mid-fight and perform a freaking RKO on his opponent. That’s what the Kameo system feels like. There is no way to turn it off.

The single-player content is okay. Good story, but it’s overshadowed by the terrible towers and the horrible Test Your Might. There is no feeling of reward or satisfaction when you beat one. It’s just… ehh.

Now, is MK1 the worst Mortal Kombat ever? No. Is it the best? No. It’s just in a weird place where it can’t really find its own identity. It feels like it’s trying to be too much while being too little at the same time. Would I recommend MK1 if you want a fun fighting game and it’s just a one-time thing where you don’t play it that often? Yes, absolutely. Would I recommend it if you are a long-term fighting game player looking to get into Mortal Kombat for the first time? Yes. Would I recommend it to someone like me who is a long-time fan and loves Mortal Kombat? Absolutely not.

Was this review written after losing a Kombat League match? 100%. Will I play it again even though it’s ♥♥♥♥? Yes, because there is nothing else to play. Rest in power, Mortal Kombat X, you will be missed.

5/10 very eh game.

What a fantastic fighting experience, those first few hours of the game? that story? wow - engaging and interesting! Gorgeous cinematic! Amazing voice work! And then the game kept going.

What started off as an incredibly strong intro to my first ever fighting game quickly devolved into the most disappointing narrative experience i could have ever hoped for. Multiple characters make horrendous decisions, some have their actual characters ruined by their actions which totally contradict past games stories.

And then there is that ending, laser beams, a thousand random versions of your allies and enemies, working with your enemies to defeat the even bigger and badder version of your enemies, all leading up to you getting to see that the future DLC is going to probably be more of the same!

Its just not worth the price, its not really worth the time, if this was 40 dollars i would probably give a bit more of positive review! but 70 bucks? for this? and with Microstranactions and a future game-priced dlc for a new story?

MK11 was a way better game in terms of design, gameplay, optimization and DLC selections. I don’t recommend MK1 try MK11 instead if you are new to the franchise.

Mods are the only reason I keep playing. It had crashing issues from day one and still occasionally crashes. I'm almost too bored to complete Invasion because of the repetitive fights and lack of the krypt. The in-game skins are limited and meh. The story mode was great. Unless you live on multiplayer, there is no real replay value. You can buy skins for dragon koins but why waste money when you'll forget about the game in a few weeks?

why buy premium if no dlc?

I got the premium edition for a decent amount off and yet i feel ripped off entirely I shouldnt have spent 100$ just to have to spend more money on something that was promised to premium players for free, the content has been dry and the new dlc has good promise but no one should have to pay that much after promised it for free

Kombat Pack 2 cost is a joke.
