Firstly thank you for being a part of this handtastic community. Your feedback has really helped continue to develop Super Adventure Hand.

I wanted to tease a new update coming soon with some new customisations to express yourself even more. I’m calling it the Handsome Hats Update. Yes, whether you want a spooky Jack-O-Lantern, some bunny ears or something else there will be something for you to enjoy soon!

So here we are! Launch day for our little hand friend and his fiendish feet enemies!

It’s been a fantastic journey to this point, coming up with loads of fun (and often silly) puzzles and things to do with the hand. Putting in all sorts of obstacles and items that can be used. When I started I didn’t imagine I would have made a little car to race around in for the hand but there we go, it made sense and it works. Most importantly it’s fun.

This isn’t the end though. I have some small plans for some new fun customisations. A handy hat anybody?

It’s been almost two years since I started working on this handy little game, feels great to finally have it out there!

Now on to adventure, a Super Adventure infact!

Oh yeah! Finally time to announce the handy release date!
Super Adventure Hand is releasing on September 21st!

That’s right! This week I wanted to share with you some behind the scenes of how the animated intro was HANDled from inception to completion by the fantastic folks at Brikk! The original idea came about when thinking ‘why’. Why is the hand armless and what is its motivation. I quickly realised that getting the arm back was a priority and so this meant I had an idea for the intro.



Above you can see my original story board that I wanted to share with potential partners who could help me make it a reality. I did consider if it could be done in-game/engine but quickly realised this needed to be something very special and to do it in-game would take too much of my time that I wanted to devote to making a fantastic game experience.



I was introduced to Brikk and we had a great conversation about what I envisaged and they loved the idea. Here is work in progress as they blocked out the intro from my original story board. What also liked with working with Brikk was their ideas of injecting the same sort of humor that I wanted in Super Adventure Hand.




And as you can see they really did a fantastic job and I HANDS down love it! I hope you enjoyed this little bit of behind the scenes information and I will think of some more things to share over the summer. This last week has been a very productive one. Firstly, the last of the levels has been completed so now I will be focusing on continuing to tweak and improve on them going forward. As usual I’ve been tracking down bugs, issues and looking to optimize the game so that it will run as smoothly as though it had been lathered in hand cream!

I have received a lot of valuable feedback with the demo being up for a while now and one thing that was repeated several times was to do with camera issues. Some people really don’t like it when the camera rotates by itself. :)
To combat this I’ve been experimenting with an alternative control scheme, it loses some precision when it comes to smaller movements but it’s closer to what you’d expect from a traditional third person camera/controls.
The initial feedback has been positive, players who found some jumping sections or wall crawling tricky, are now finding it much easier.

I am planning on updating the demo soon with this new control scheme as an option so you’ll be able to try it first hand! Just as soon as I’m able to lay my hands on the latest localization pass.

That’s right. I’ve been hard at work creating some exciting new levels and I’m getting close to the final one. In fact next week I will be working on the last planned level for the game.

I’ve also been HANDling lots of tricky bugs and tweaks to make Super Adventure Hand even better. In addition, I’ve been working on the achievements. Lastly, this week has been focused on localization because I want to make sure lots of players can enjoy Super Adventure Hand in their preferred language. There was a professional localization pass for the February demo, but the text added since then has temporarily been using Google translate which obviously isn’t great.

Wow! What a week we had last week! It was great to be part of the Guerrilla Collective and share the brand-new trailer and never before seen cinematic game intro. I will be sharing some more behind-the-scenes on how that trailer was made in the future so stay tuned for that!

Releasing a new trailer, updated demo and being part of a cool collective wasn’t the only thing I did last week though. I created some more levels including one that utilises garbage bags… yes I literally put garbage bags into the game and they make for a fun and tricky piece to the puzzle.

I also had some fantastic feedback on the new demo level but am always looking for more feedback so don’t be shy!
