You make charcoal in groups of 25, it stacks at 50, and the lowest recipe uses 80....and the whole game is like that. Either no thought has been put in or just trolling for every single thing.

You need to kill something like 150,000 trees to make a sword and you are then going to fail and have to go murder another forest to try again.

You need to kill 10 deer, find 20 onions, and an entire farm of thyme to make 5 single servings of stew.....or just pick a mushroom that gives you a better stat hit.

You're going to have to make something like 50 (that's a conservative estimate; I got bored after 15) maces in order to make a woodcutting axe, even though you can make a more complicated war axe before that. Because, you know, otherwise, it wasn't grindy enough.

Honestly, the devs should consider making the chests into dressers so people can just build their houses out of them because the building is also just knockoff ♥♥♥♥ from asset packs, and I need storage more than I need walls.


The game is pretty, though. Unless you build a roof...then you are blind.

If you like wasting hours waiting on timesinks and pointlessly grinding so you can make items that nobody needs (and even if they did need it there's no real way in the game to find that out or trade it to them) in order to maybe level a skill up enough to make something marginally less useless this game is for you.

Lots of potential here, had fun with the building and crafting gameplay loops for quite a while. Two main issues that prevent this from being a game I keep playing for now:

1. Without any marketplace or functional economy the whole thing feels pointless. There isn't even a trade function at the moment. People just leave their extra goods in a chest out front of their house for people to take. The game just does not make sense without a way to trade goods for profit.
2. The combat just...sucks. It is clunky and feels very unresponsive. The way skills work does not make too much sense either. You have one skill per weapon. Each skill has a relatively long cooldown, so melee combat is just switching from one weapon to another in order to use each skill you have and then spamming left click until something is off cooldown. Don't count on blocking to matter at all. I cannot speak on the magic system, I did not play with it but something tells me it won't feel any better.

Not recommending until at least one of these two things is in a state that feels satisfying.

Truth be told, I havent spend much time playing. Basicaly, the game looks good, the whole concept is promising (reason why I bought it in the first place)... but it does not seem to work for me.

Upon entering the world, I was tasked to gather some wood sticks and stones but could not find any. Did run around for 20minutes till I found enough to build my first construction hammer. I scratched my head "it does not seem right". Well, after the hammer was built, I was tasked to claim a plot of land and thats where it all made sense and dawned on me... everything is taken, you turn around 360° and from your position to the far horizont, everything is claimed, and you run to find some spot and you run and run and run and finaly find something

Games like this are usualy made the way, that there is no respawn close to a player, and since everything is claimed, it makes sense, that its hard to find some simple sticks and stones. Next is, I just started, I know noone. I should claim a plot of land next to someone I do not know? Worst part... noone around. In my 30min of running around finding few ressources and a plot of land, there was not one player around, yet all taken.

Basicaly I quit and refunded after this and will stick to smaller games where I can play with a few friends. Pax Dei would greatly profit from a "dedicated server" solution like Conan Exiles.

This is EARLY-alpha. I've been gaming since before Ultima Online (MMO), and beta tested many games since the 90s. I almost dropped the $100 for the master founder package from the pics, vids, etc... but instead started with the $40 (which is almost full-ticket release price) and the char dev is ridiculous.

I read many of the reviews and I found all the kids crying about paying for an MMO with an sub, that is absolutely standard and fair. Also the cry babies about their property disappearing after stopping sub for a time, and ironically some idiot posted an advertisement for ffxiv..... which REMOVES your property after 40-50 days lol (played it for ~400 /playtime days [9600 hours]).

Anywho, all the reviews I saw were focused in a wrong direction of new-gen gamers wanting everything for free where in fact this game isn't ready to charge $40 for 1 lot or $100 for ANYTHING frankly (which I almost bought the 4-lots). The vids are misleading, my chars feet didn't touch the ground. Felt like i was playing a 1990s alpha game.

The world/land was beautiful, that's it. I want my money back and you need to start over on your *pricing* for Early Access and I'd consider coming back. Charging people full-price for founders packages in this state is embarrassing for you.

This game is under developed and at best the coding is shotty. Glitches galore, built and baked right into the core systems you'll be using constantly, like crafting that fails to complete and uses your resources, or crashing every time you walk through a load zone.

The plot system, which makes the game unique, is behind a paywall which is necessary to have enough room to work on all skills, if you so choose, meaning you must pay, or play with people - which you will not, because there is so little content all people active have fled to the RP server, and all plots are either used by the remaining clans, or behind blocked by the players that never log on anymore.


Updating because developers took time to respond, instead of working on the game:


I have over 400 hours and above level 30 in all skills, please do not question my competence or intelligence by suggesting I look at a community made guide on how to operate in your game.

It is not possible to fit all tables, and the furnace, and the forge, and all chests needed to hold resources to work on said skills, on one plot hence why I have more than 1.

Secondly, if you need an online out-of-game guide to figure out how to do anything, at all, then you as a developer have done a bad job of explaining and instructing how to do so IN GAME. Not to mention I can't build my plot next to anyone I don't know cause if they remove theirs, parts of mine start deteriorating.

Lastly, if broken promises were candy and hugs we'd all be fat and happy. Since the second week of July the plot issue has been a problem, it's been a month.

All in all, in short, stop defending your game in reviews and let your work speak for itself.

I enjoy the graphics, yes its pretty, the building is detailed and offers a ton of outlets for possibilities, now and in the future.

BUTTT.
This game is the definition of a social sandbox, with a very LOW social aspect, unless extra exterior efforts are taken (communities spread among tons of discords versus the pax dei channels). Yes you can argue that communities have been created, alternate discord servers have been formed, and other exterior supports that boost opportunity for the social aspect are working. BUT--
1. You missed the opportunity to add a global, local, or other in game mechanics that would boost the social sandbox, and stick to the medieval theme.
2. These exterior discord communities are formed around the first wipe ever, which seems to separate the community for future wipes to come, along with forming communities (specifically private discord communities) that will run and define the different shards, events, and how they are run, indefinitely. Which is both good as it creates an actual social aspect to the game, but also something i'd prefer not to have defined by a private discord community for the long haul. A game shouldn't be RELY on discord. Thank you to these wonderful people who are taking on these roles, adding to the game play available, and using their personal time to do so, no negativity towards you, but id rather it not be defined this way forever. Maybe if it was a private server hosted by the community, but not a public official shard making all the final calls on how things will run. Unfortunately it seems this is how the shard community will work. ---

We didn't use social media (discord) in the medieval days, why is this game heavily depending on it for the social aspect to be successful?

When the team posted that DISCORD IS META, it kind of summed up the struggles of how this "social sandbox" is struggling to truly take off. Again, so many missed opportunities for in game mechanics that would help the social/community parts of the game. ya ya, i know, its early access.

I truly wish i didnt have to click yes or no. I would recommend this game to a specific type of gamer; this recommendation would change when pvp and further in game opportunities are worked on, added, and optimized.

They better work hard if they want to charge subscriptions for this game, I would never at this current state, and it would take a whole lot more content to get me to even consider.

I do NOT recommend it for now! crafting system is a joke on easy you fail half of the recipies . theres nothing to do except farm materials and build your setrtlement. there are barely any people active, if you apply for clans no1 will respond in days or at all so forget about raiding. If this is the future for mmos then itss going to be a big FAIL!

So, to compare this to something, I would compare it to ARK and WoW. In a finished state, I would say it combines those two games and makes it into a super awesome medieval version. In it's current state, it is clearly alpha and I am eagerly awaiting their updates (which are all planned).
I really hope they expand this universe immensely and add a lot more proffessions, a use for every single item, even in higher tiers and add many more difficult challenges for pve.

And one critical point, I know you guys want to keep the armors etc as medieval as possible and I love it. But have mercy, add sliders for body and with that I will be even more specific, add the darn chest/boob slider. I know I know, there might be 0,000001% hating that. But 99% will love it, both men and women.

Tried three different servers and they were all dead. Even after checking Reddit to get some info on what ones were busy, I did not see a single person in game. This is despite EVERY world/zone being marked as high pop/full.

Watching any reviews on YouTube everyone says the social aspect of this game is key and solo play is not viable. Don't really see how this game is playable when you combine that with empty servers?

I think the devs probably need to rethink their pricing or this game is RIP.

This is a game with a lot of potential but at the end of the day...I don't know what this game is. It doesn't seem to have a clear identity at this point. Lots of grind, frankly, ridiculously over the top grindy is a more appropriate description. Content beyond the insane crafting grind isn't clear to me yet but this is just an opinion. My suggestion would be to watch a few videos on it. Its such a gorgeous game at the same time. Watch a video, buy it or not, but just know that it's early access and feels every bit early access. There it is, there's my review.
