DUEL Combat

How do I do this?
Do I press the directional arrow that is shown?
And do I press the arrow (or WASD key) multipl times or just once?
Am I supposed to press the key whilst in the long rectangular bit or when the arrow hits the circle?
I cant get a single hit.

I have got my first victory now ,
my Queen versus a Pawn.

This mode is really hard.

I found I must press the correct arrow direction inside the circle ,and the timer is too fast even on 0 difficulty.

I think the arrow direction press is OK whilst in the long straight bit before the circle as well.

I also noticed in some circumstances ,a miss press is not fatal ,if the next press is correct.

I am getting better at it though-
it is quite fun when you get a few correct keystrokes in.
I have a feeling it MAY be easier with a controller.
