the music in this game makes me feel like everything is gonna be alright

Its like terraria for extremely autistic people and i love it

At the time of writing I have put in over 240hrs of playtime into Starbound. I have mostly played with Mods such as Frackin Universe and etc, and hosted a dedicated server on my 2nd PC (which is on 24/7) so my friends could hop in on any time.

In short, the game offers a lot and can be fun with friends. especially if you add content mods such as Frackin Universe. Even though I do recommend the game, it is with this caveat. If you are not within a certain range or block distance from your crafting machines or smelters, they will not work. If you are not within a certain range of your farm, it will not grow. The game only loads chunks of the game within a certain radius of the player. Everything else is frozen in time. This means that if you are off exploring or on another planet, nothing will grow or smelt, etc. You are forced to remain close and afk for progress to happen. Another issue that goes hand and hand with the "chunk" loading issue is when you are dropping down quickly or even moving fast horizontally, the game can have difficulty keeping up with the "chunk" loading. I have died many times due to the game freezing and fps taking a hard hit because I wasn't able to activate my 2nd jump or hookshot to save myself from a fall. The games optimization and performance is very bad. My desktop pc is a pretty high end machine and has 96GB RAM, 4090 RTX, and a Ryzen 9 950X. The "server"/2nd PC has a 5yr old Intel i7, 24GB RAM, and my 3080 RTX. Kind of funny when I can host a Satisfactory server and it works flawlessly with no issues and a pixelated game from 2016 has nothing but fps and performance issues. I was so sick of the poor performance that just yesterday after me and a friend of mine completed the main story quest we decided to call it quits and move onto something else. There was still plenty of side quests, places to explore, research to unlock, and etc. But neither of us are interested in putting up with the poor performance and fps issues along with the glaring "chunk" loading crap. Even Minecraft furnaces/ smelters work when you are FAR FAR away. Pretty big oversight if you ask me.

Anyways.. should you buy this game? Yes. I would still recommend it for the price tag. Just beware of the glaring issues that may or may not occur for you. This game had so much potential, but was abandoned by its Devs. If you are not used to survival crafting games, play the vanilla game first before adding in any crazy content mods that may overwhelm you. See if you like the base game first and then start adding in mods.
