Why is Maria desexualized? It was literally the purpose of her character
Maria was an embodiment of James' sexual perversions. She was supposed to be sexy and slutty. Why does she looks like a scared rabbit now and her seductive behavior
and outfit are gone away?

Do developers even understand the game?

Because you're projecting your sexual perversions onto James and making ♥♥♥♥ up. She wasn't supposed to be sexy and slutty, she was supposed to be a character players and James would care about more than finding Mary, and they changed her outfit and behavior now to put more focus on her humanity, because men these days seem to struggle with seeing it behind their porn addiction more than when the original came out.

LOL @Juular, Maria is absolutely suppose to portray a sensual manifestation of James's dead wife. Have you not played the original game?

Honestly it's deeper than both of these simple takes, which are only two culture warring sides.

@Tracido - Of course there is much more to these characters and themes in this game. Obviously, I was just responding to the one facet mentioned in this discourse. My take away, in as few words as possible, is that anytime someone tries to remake a game, I wish they would focus on keeping as much true to the original as possible while improving presentation and quality of life in the gameplay.

Same, because even if I wanted Silent Hill 2 the re-imagining, I'd have expected it to be sold that way, and NOT as a remake.

Dude, the whole game is about suppressed sexual desires of James. Lying figure was supposed to wear red boots due to early concepts. Nurses are sexy because of that too. And Maria was literally his dream about his wife after long period of desease. Even her DLC is called "BORN FROM THE WISH"

No, not the entire thing, that's where you are going too far. It's indeed a theme, but the developers themselves discussed this during the work on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ video, and you can look that up I can't share that here.

THAT is the Silent Hill 2 they decided went TOO FAR, the ORIGINAL devs. They were thinking about going as far as AO, but they changed their minds during the project, so that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ video released that had the more extreme stuff they left out.

The game wanted to TOUCH on sex with regards to the repression inside James, but not be completely about it. Hence I said it's deeper than that.

You people care too much about "symbolism" and stuff.

Can't you just accept that a remake can't be 100 percent faithful with the original game ?

If it was then it wouldn't be a remake in the first place.

Even Resident Evil 1 remake which some consider it a best remake had lots of differences with original RE 1 on PS1.

Because OG was literally based on symbolism. It was deep PSYCHOLOGICAL thriller. Remove symbolism and it's just another horror about monsters.

Also RE1 remake didn't change OG, but added more content with Lisa Trevor. All OG stuff was almost the same.

Fact, and ALSO, since it's MODERN, I'd make the Adults Only content (The ♥♥♥♥♥♥ video) part of the game now.

INSTEAD OF CENSOR IT FURTHER.

Bro has not played Silent Hill anything.

@dprog1995 - I'm sorry but you're wrong. That is exactly what a remake is suppose to be. In a remake you update graphics, improve gameplay and introduce quality of life improvements. But, you never deviate from the games original story and vision, otherwise it is not the same game. Period.

By the way, it looks like the red boots on Lying Figures are back in the Remake!

None of them have, that's the publishers point. They are selling it to these kids who have no love of the game, just people who see new shiny and consume. They think more of them will buy it than the classic fans. So here we are.

Changing some characters design a little doesn't mean that they are deviating from the games original story and vision.

I have played SH 1,2,3 and shattered memories.

I'm not a fan of the whole "symbolism hunting" culture in the SH fandom. Since it's just people theorizing whatever that comes to their minds. ("Oh look, this character's name is Harry ! There is a meaning behind it !")
