"A Chance."
This will be a tl;dr and I realize that, but basically... I'm miffed with some of the choices being made with the remake and now I'm explaining why they blew the chance they're asking from us now.

Because...

The chance was given with being open-minded when we saw that one of the keystone games in Survival Horror was being remade in 2024. It was given a certain degree of grace because Capcom pulled it off masterfully with RE2R and RE4R (at least in my opinion). That chance does not extend beyond the point where we learn that this company is engaging with things that only harm gaming and creative media as a whole.

What am I talking about? DEI companies (Grifter companies.) Games aren't made with a checklist at the forefront for 'X' number of races or 'X' amount of representation or quote "safe" takes on certain characters or scenarios. There are games with plenty of that organically and games with none of that organically, because those things aren't what people are looking for in a video game, they're just not, and if they are and NEED that to enjoy a game then they're honestly looking for validation in the wrong places.

I don't need to see my entire persona in a game to enjoy it or identify with characters in it, and I certainly don't want those things to be penciled in for the sake of checking off a box. I want people to make games because that was their vision of the game. I don't want them to change it or pander to sensitivities because those people will never appreciate something for the right reasons anyway.

I think changing certain things about characters to make them less 'offensive' is honestly disingenuous to reality. Because reality is, people and life will always be what it's going to be regardless whether or not you're offended. Making Maria less overtly revealing goes against the entire point of her character as one example.

It's just... really disappointing that a company would water down elements of things to placate the sensitivities of an overly sensitive group of people.

At least there will always be the original game, right?

I wonder what the original SH team members think (I know they are disbanded) and what the Japanese audience think of this 'remake'.

It's a shame that Konami went DEI and ESG downhill.

Being disappointed by a negative trend mounting in popular media (a broad issue) is not the same thing as getting bent out of shape over a minor result of it (I.E Maria's outfit or Angela's face.) Equating those things equally basically opens the doors to say anyone upset by anything is being overly sensitive, in which case there's no point in even talking to you.

Rather than skim through my post to look for something to try and invalidate my for my opinion, maybe form an argument? People who leap to do what you do usually can't form them.

They'd probably scratch their head and wonder why anyone would be upset over an exposed midriff in a video game and why DEI companies even exist. Because unlike the west, they don't placate to a society of people with glass bones and paper skin.

It's a shame that Silent Hill has to be a victim in this, but it's necessary for the collapse and reset of the industry. The more this stuff fails, the closer we get to a day when it stops. Games will eventually stop being about politics and, hopefully, go back to being about fun, interesting, thought provoking ideas.
Agreed. It seems to be absolutely the only way.

the japanese audience actually hate this woke and dei crap, and they blame the westerner's which is their fault. their the ones forcing this ♥♥♥♥ on everyone.

sexy games are doing great, Chinese game developers are making billions from from not going dei/woke.

Keep telling yourself that.. but the truth of it is.. crying over an NPCs outfit is probably one of the most sensitive snowflakey things I've seen, personally. :sadpug::Horse:

A chance.

Honestly, if I pretend I have interest for a moment sure.

I'd give the game a chance. Not at that price point though.

If they really wanted folks to give it a chance this would be no more than $40.

That's if they genuinely wanted folks to give it a chance (that's unreasonable some might feel).

Well so is charging $70 to give something a "chance".

This isnt something like...a vacuum cleaner that if it doesn't work you just return. This is a game that can seem ok for the first couple hours, giving the illusion of solid work...only to possibly end up having issues much further into the game (thinking more technical than themetically but wouldnt be the first to do a bait and switch).

Thus negating the very limited 2 hours/2 weeks return window.

Regretfully for them, the best way this game will get a chance is when it's on deep discount. A year or two down the road and by that point hopefully some of the bugs (their will be bugs, always is) will have been ironed out.

$70 isn't a miniscule amount for most people and definitely ludicrous to ask to give a chance at that price point.

Again. Don't agree in what they've shown so far. Not a fan of modern gaming for the most part but trying to answer this as objectively neutral a possible.

With a point regardless of where one stands can agree (hopefully) with.

Edit:

Tl;Dr version

No.

Go back up to the top. Read the whole thing. If it's too much it means you need the practice.

Read a book.
