Future of Firefly
I hope this game made money, and they learned from it.

I wonder what the future holds for the studio. Stronghold, Civ, Tropico, and Call of Duty are some of my favorite games.
Civ is changing the entire system for 7
Tropico is working on a Sequel, and 6 was better than 5.
Call of Duty basically isn't a military game anymore.
To me, Stronghold 1 is solid, and I went to go buy the other games... most likely am buying crusader 2 but I do not think, from looking at the catalog, that they understand what this niche audience wants, and what is possible to go from the top 25 % of studios, to the top 10 % of studios.
It's how I felt with Dungeon Defenders. They made Awakened and missed the entire mark.
This game came out, solid remake, looks great, and really only has multiplayer bugs that aren't even that bad.
I hope whatever is next is solid.
I've made some games, I wanted to work at Firefly when I was like 14, I like the idea of a castle game. The studio clearly wants to make a Castle MMO that is successful but as far as I am aware they cannot do that. I feel like it's possible.

As far as I know, they're doing pretty good

The Definitive Edition of Stronghold sold more than 100 000 copies less than 72 hours after release, so I imagine now, a year later, it made even more money

It's likely they'll be doing Stronghold Crusader Definitive Edition next after this one was so successful, and as far as I know they are working on a new Stronghold game in Unreal Engine 5 for a while now, so that's coming too, and if those turn out successful too then we'll be getting plenty of Stronghold in the future (Crusader DE will be a hit 100%, I'm sure)

The 3D track record isnt great which makes me worry.
I figured they made a stack off of this, I wonder how much that covered project debt.

Only 1 developer was working on the DE if I remember correctly, so they made quite the profit of the project
I think the next 3D will turn out better because they've seen how high in demand these classics are now, they might heavily model the next 3D one after the originals now

I want to see where you know that from. I thought it was a team.
As for 3D, they have been able to do it for years, they just execute it poorly every time. I don't even understand how.

They said it themselves in one of their YouTube videos, I don't remember which one though
I believe it was on the the Q&A videos, it should still be on YouTube
Oh, here, no need to look through the videos, I found it, they even mention this in their FAQ here in the discussions

A: No. Stronghold: Definitive Edition sadly will not include a Skirmish Mode. This mode was not in the original game and retrofitting/backporting all the Skirmish related code and features from Crusader to DE is tricky. Unfortunately, it is simply not possible to accomplish within the timeframe we have to develop and release this game. We're a very small team, with the majority of our staff working on "Stronghold: Unreal" at the moment. We have a single coder working on DE (the coder who worked on the original game) so we're limited in what time and resources we have.

That's insane. I have made much smaller games alone. This game must have been a nightmare to recode.

Actually there was no need rewriting of the old code. Majority of it is running inside the Unity. Thanks to it, the game still "feels" the same as the original despite moving to the new engine. From the other hand, the artists had a lot of work redrawing all the old sprites into high definition.

The pixel art is wild. It's always been the most wild part.

Just do Crusader: DE and every problem in the company is solved instantly. They'll make more money than they ever did on any title before and ever will on any title going forward.

I'm with you on this one. I'm already a fan of the AOE series, and I'm very impressed by the remaster of Stronghold. It's a little more dynamic, somewhat more like ants duking it out, but the creative side of Stronghold appeals to me more strongly. I don't know if its the more elaborate buildings, or the p*** easy map editor, but I feel more drawn to Stronghold.
