No offense, but you clearly never played Harvest Moon. Stardew Valley looked like a worse Terraria. Usually you take a game you like and improve on it; this game looks like it does absolutely nothing in that regard outside of a different art style.
You and GWOP ahould probably expand y'all's views more and have fun.

I have lol, arguing about this is kinda stupid

You can see stardew valley was inspired by old harvest moon specifically the gba era.
Yeah the art style may have grown out from it but it’s was still the foundation, and yes I can agree it does look like Terraria too.

As for building upon the genre I can’t speak for it since it’s not out but if anything I’m still excited and looking forward to what they can do without comparing it to other games in the genre.
The more pixel graphic farm sims that come out, the funnier these types of comments are.
I love the pixel art style. If the art style turns you off so badly then nobody is forcing you to play. I feel similarly about Coral Island's art style and animations. The characters just look and move derpy IMO. Still have it on my wishlist though and waiting for an epic sale price. xD

So yeah- I get it and I understand. Complaining about the art style isn't going to change it though. Just speak with your wallet and give only what you're willing to pay.

You know Stardew Valley isn't the only farm game that's used pixel art, right? Lol.
Y'know, Stardew Valley looks like Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town for the GBA, which looks like a fully 2D version of Harvest Moon 64, which is a 3D version of the original Harvest Moon for the SNES.

Side Note: While there was a "farm sim" that predates Harvest Moon by five years called Daichi Kun Crisis Do Natural, DKCDN has a completely different feel from the traditional farming sims popularized by Bokujō Monogatari ("Farm Story" or as we knew it in English: Harvest Moon)

Isn't it marvellous that one developer managed to create a game so iconic that it has become the "tastes like chicken" of an entire video game genre? I really admire Barone for that, though I also feel sorry for all the devs and teams who constantly have to get compared to SV.

It's an amazing feat, and I feel blessed to have experienced Stardew Valley in my lifetime. Barone is a national treasure.

They don’t even have to be farming sims. I’ve seen people say this about any chill new pixel art game. You’d think Concerned Ape invented pixel art and the farming sim genre by how often people accuse other indie games of being Stardew Valley ripoffs just on them being in the same genre or having a pixel art style.

It's a darn shame that a lot of people are starting to forget the pixel games of the old times. I had an ex who got me into SNES final fantasy, and that jump started my love of pixel art RPGs. Especially farming sims because my sisters and I used to LOVE playing Harvest Moon Magical Melody and A Wonderful Life. I send them indie farm sims occasionally, and they love what I pick out.

Anyway, these people should look at old Final Fantasy/Phantasy Star/Chrono Trigger/Any Oldstyle Pixel Art game from the 80s-90s. There are a lot of gems, and a lot of them are getting remakes.
