This game is good but whoever wrote Trucy and Athena's non existent character arcs will one day answer to me.

As of this writing, I've finished Apollo Justice and am on Chapter 3 of Dual Destinies. I've played Apollo Justice before, but that was over 10 years ago on my DS. I've never played Dual Destinies or Spirit of Justice since I didn’t have a 3DS. I appreciate that all the Ace Attorney games can now be (legally) played on PC instead of requiring old retro consoles.

Objection! That said, I can’t say I love this trilogy more than the original Phoenix Wright Trilogy. There was a certain charm to the first three games.

Maybe it’s the sprites? There was something endearing about the hand-drawn art of the Phoenix Wright trilogy. I don’t love the 3D sprites they started using in the newer titles—they didn’t age well, in my opinion.

Maybe it’s the pacing? The text scroll in the Apollo Justice trilogy is slow, and you can’t adjust it. I read faster than the text appears, but you can’t just press "A" to skip because you risk also skipping sprite animations, which I want to see. When the game dictates your pace, it can get a bit frustrating.

Maybe it’s the wacky gimmicks? The Ace Attorney series isn’t known for its realism, but the crimes became more outlandish and harder to follow—they completely lose me at times.

Hold it! It’s still a fantastic experience for anyone who loves the Ace Attorney series, and is a series worth recommending. If you're itching for more after the original trilogy, this has the Ace Attorney formula that you can come to expect.
